I am leaving home for 3 weeks with no one to water my P. auritum in my absence

My P. auritum has been growing slowly but surely for a few months. I water it a tad everyday to make sure it is happy, but the problem is I am leaving state for 3 weeks and will not be around to water it. What to do? Can i Make some kind of "aqua glose-esque" thing to water water the soil by slow diffusion. Has anyone had to deal with this problem before?
Maybe I can take a soda bottle put a hole in the cap and another hole in the bottom. Fill with water, invert, and stick in the soil.
Also, I have heard you can wick a shoelace out of a bottle and lay it in the soil to keep the soil hydrated.
Maybe I should build a little plastic enclosure for it to act as a mini green house.
Any suggestions or experience?

I have heard that too. I would use the biggest container I could easily fill ( perhaps a 5 gallon bucket) to make sure it would have enough water and use a strand of a cotton rope. Put some kind of weight or rock on top of the rope in the bottom of the bucket to make sure it doesn't fall out or tape it to the top, or poke a hole in the lid and push the rope through. Also use a rock or piece of wire to anchor the rope into the pot. Probably the most important part is to make sure that the top of the soil is lower than the lowest part of the bucket. That way all of the water can be soaked up. Something that might (or might not), work even better would be getting some clear plastic tubing and running a shoelace through it with some wire and using that instead. Might hold water better, but I'm not positive.
I'm just going from something I read and haven't tried this yet. So don't hold me to its effectiveness.
Also, whatever you end up doing, test it out for a few days prior to your leaving to make sure whatever you come up with actually is reliable enough.
Or if you have a spare 60 bucks, you could probably buy some 1/4" drip line and a battery powered faucet timer and hook it up and run I through a window to the plant.
Best of luck to you. Tell us how it goes.

Take a 40, drink it. Punch a nail through the lid. Take out the nail. Fill in with water, then shove it in the soil with the nozzle aimed at the rootball. Use multiple 40's if your plant is bigger/outdoors.

I actually think this is going to work perfectly. I am just making a hash mark everyday for a couple of weeks to test it out. I might need a slightly bigger one, but I think the dish soap bottle design is perfect.

If its too little water you can lance a hole in the top of the bottle to allow more flow, but too much and you need to find a bigger bottle.
