casing isnt pinning!!!
    #19103130 - 11/07/13 10:03 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

I set up a FC using a four tier greenhouse. I have a humidifier set to go off every two hours for 30min at a time. The humidity never dips below 90%. It is an external humidifier with tubing so i get FAE 12 times a day and on top of that i have holes in the sides of the GH for added FAE. I have my light on a 12 by 12 cycle (the only prob with it is that i have no space for it above my GH so i have it on the side but it still lights up the closet that the GH is in very well. My temps are between 68-76 depending on the time of day.

I put the casings in on the 26th so they have been in there for 12 days and I still don't see any pinning!

WHAT GIVES?!

What does it consist of? Is it grain spawned to coir, grain cased with verm, ect? Also what species is it? The reason I ask is because PE is notorious for taking a long time as I am sure other species are as well.

perfect, thats what you wanna see.
now start troubleshooting your pinning triggers and since it's colonized moist and agetting fae i'd say it may not be getting adequate evaporation off the sub? maybe too high rh? what kind of hygrometer you using? i''d pick a tray up and see if it's waterlogged

shroomnub4u

Its WBS sub and casing is hpoo/coco/verm/gypsum/ = 7 1/2 leters hpoo/half brick coco/ 2 cups verm/ 2 cups gypsum. this is all brought to field capacity  (this is for each rubber made)

cronicr

hygrometer is super basic. No batteries (have two in my FC)
My abbreviations are escaping me at the moment. What is RH, again?
should i literally pick up my colonized sub from the rubbermade to see if its water logged? Not sure exactly how to check this.

I was under the impression that with cubes the humidity cant be to high. 100% is fine. Is that not correct?

Correct...there is no such thing as the RH being too high.

In your opinion what do you think is happening with my pin set?

Looks like it wants to fruit.....give it a few more days and see what happens....I think I see knots....

Focus on lots of fresh air instead of high humidity.....

Do you think i should turn down the cycle on my timer for my humidifier? I have it set to 30min every 2hours (all day). Now that im looking at the casings they do look pretty wet. should i dab with a paper towel and turn down my cycles?

How often would you recommend to FAE? 4x a day, 8x a day, more, less?

No, just more fresh air.....

8 times an hour sounds about right....

You want constant, passive FAE....not FAE on a timer.

Cut some slits in the thing.....or poke holes SGFC style.

In a post of mine someone said it could take up to 2 weeks, and to go for pinning triggers such as fae, high rh but also, evaporation... drying of the surface... Wish you luck!!!

I already have holes sgfc style.

Im noticing a lot of water build up due to all the condensation and water drips in the FC. Still i shouldn't turn it down? Do you have any suggestions as to how i can prevent this on all four tiers of the GH?

Also, was myc poking through the surface on the 1st of the 12 days? or later...?

High RH is not a pinning trigger.

Condensation should not be an issue...the substrates are producing heat...this means there is a temperature differental...this means there is condensation.

But if there is condensation, you are not really getting enough fresh air.

FAE causes evaporation and RH, it is a win win.
