I dont think they smell like cinnamon, To me they smell like spicy radishes and musky some smell somewhat sweeter than others aswell, to a couple friends of mine they smell like an old persons house. I find smells can be way to hard to describes sometimes..
I think ill try a small amount to see what it tastes like tommorow.

I think that's what I was smelling when I went on a really long hike recently! It smelled so goooood! I would say it was very unique and new to my scent vocabulary. Looking back I would say maybe had a little old house aroma to it..definitely the same comforting feeling received from it, sweetness smell, but couldn't compare it directly to anything. Hmmm. was such low elevation I couldn't imagine it was matsis though.

They felt kind of slimy, and smell is not bad or good but cant describe it.
Sure resembles them!
I have yet to find them.. but If I found those I would think I had finally found them!
...at the base of a cedar?
my cousin describe their scent as dirty socks and a hint of cinnamon...
Definitely matsutake.
the texture is creepy soft right?

Random question: When a spore is produced and ejected from a basidiomyte, does the sterigma die off or does it reproduce another spore? If it dies off will a basidium produce another sterigma bearing a basidiospore?
I guess the question I am posing is; are basidium a one shot pony or do they replicate spores through a mushrooms life.

I do not know for certain but my guess is that it is a one shot sort of deal.

Rummaging around old threads I found this vid. It got me wondering. I was kind of assuming the same.

Definitely matsis. I find the smell to be spicy with a hint of funk. Nuthin' like it. ;-) I dunno what you guys are talking about "creepy soft" - as in charmin? And the caps look a bit slick when moist but I don't think of them as "slimy". I find the overall texture kinda fascinating - so dense that my clean knife squeaks cutting the stipe crosswise. It's a trip that they peel like string cheese. When I clean them at home, I generally peel the annulis down to the base of the stipe - the sand layer peels off and I can get one more bite out of it.
Now go get the rest of them! They are very beautiful dried in full slices - keep their shape and color very well.

Possible psilocybe?
Habitat: heather (ground cover)
Gills: N/A Stem: brownish, pretty fragile, has a wavy bend.
Cap: Brown to tan, smooth, very tiny. (technical I know)
Spore print color: N/A.
Bruising: No color change was observed.
Location: Issaquah, WA. In an island planter on a road within a sub division.

are these Pellies^^?
Next is the suspected allenii

Habitat: under a small fern, with a fine saw dust like wood mulch
Gills: The gill color is white. The gills are attached.
Stem: white, pretty thick, look fibrous.
Cap: Brown almost red(or vice versa), smooth, very tiny.
Spore print color: N/A.
Bruising: No color change was observed, waiting for more mature results.
Location: In a shipment of landscape materials believed to have originated in an Oregon nursery.
I will put out a better effort at making prints and adding more info to this post tomorrow if needed.

That was my first guess, but these seemed to fit scabrosus a bit better - darker and wartier? Why do you say imbricatus over scabrosus? Is scabrosus not correct for location?

They look like baby galerina to me, but I'm no expert. The stems don't look white in the picture.
btw, thanks for posting here instead of the PNW actives thread.

I am wondering how you folks apply KOH to specimens. That shiz is caustic as all get out and I got a bunch of it now.
But It scares me because its pH is over 12! Yikes!

Potassium hydroxyde is used to help ID certain groups, genera, and species of fungi.
