Is it better to clone from a mature fruit or a pin?

If you clone from pins you sacrifice what could be an awesome fruit, and if you clone from fruit you can "have your cake and eat it too". I hear cloning from pins allows for faster growth to over run contaminates, but it seems cloning from the interior of a fruit should be inherently cleaner than dumping a pin on a plate. I am an agar noob, so I am wondering about the community's input? What do you guys prefer?

My opinion:
If you are cloning from an MS grow, clone a fruit that has the characteristics you like. This usually means a mature fruit.
You don't know what the characteristics of the pin will be.
If it's an isolate grow, then do whatever.
I agree with your reasoning. Either way, you will need to do at least 1 transfer to make sure you have a clean culture.

interesting. i have a monster fruit i was going to clone from due to the fact that it was the largest, fastest growing in my tub. am i better off just plucking a pin in that case? will any traits from a specific fruit be passed on when cloning or is it a crapshoot of genetics? ive always been a lil unclear about this as i havent read enough about it at this point.

It is better to clone from a pin because it is younger and more vigorous than matured fruits.
It has to be said that all of my clones/isolates came from matured fruits.....so yea.

So, not preferable to a pin but still viable and will produce good results?

i made some clone plates from a mature fruit, and then 2-3 days later, i made two plates that i put a pin each on, from some decent clusters that the pic was attached to, and the pin plates grew almost twice as fast as the mature samples did. just an observation.

Yes, pins will usually grow faster, which means it will usually outgrow any potential contams. You just don't know what the characteristics of that fruit are at that age unless it's an isolate.
There are pros and cons for both.
