    #19101299 - 11/07/13 03:26 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

sup shroomery?!
ive been going through a lot of jars lately, to the point where i just need to throw them in the dishwasher when theyre done. my dilemma is how do i clean my SFD lids? are they dishwasher safe too? ive been just throwing them in a 1:10 bleach solution in my sink and letting them soak for a few hours. thanks!

Either way works.

I don't clean mine because they don't get dirty.

They go in the PC and get sterilized like everything else.

Soaking them in bleach water or running through the dishwasher seems pointless at best.

When not in use, I store them in a ziplock.

Just another opinion.

but they are usually covered in mashed up grains and residual mycellium. i like to get that off before doing another round of jars.

I don't understand how they get covered in mashed up grains or have mycelium growing on them.

Are you putting them between the ring and the lid? or the lid and the jar?

They should be between the ring and the lid. The holes don't need to be enough for grains to fit through.

If you are using plastic lids, then I think most people RTV a piece of the SFD to the top of the lid.

sorry i guess i was unclear. they dont get covered, just some gets on them from when im beating up jars for spawning. also my jars are normal metal jars with a silicone injection port and a small port for gas exchanged with a round piece of sfd covering just that port.

k. You can just rinse them under the tap. I guess if it's real bad you may have to put forth extra efforts.

But I wouldn't worry about contamination. It's going to be PC'd anyway. I wouldn't want to leave anything that would wick in contams. Washing off anything visible should be plenty.

I don't see a problem with using the dishwasher, but I'd run it without soap. I don't like the idea of soap residue.

I have no data to support my opinion, it's just an opinion. This is why I prefer multiple small holes as opposed to one big one.
