Green Mold?
    #19099602 - 11/07/13 09:56 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Newbie here this is my first post. I've been viewing for some time.
I have been nursing this batch along for a couple months now. I had some problems
early on with humidity and flies and cob web mold. Just when I think I
had everything under control I think I may have green mold. Here is the situation
I started in a glass terrarium when I birthed the cakes. I had stone and water in
the bottom and a bubble air stone. I soon found out this was a bad setup.(you see the
last time I birthed any before this was when the PF site was up and running...so yrs ago)
I read some teks on here and made a mono tub with perlite humidificatin. Since I wasn't getting
any fruits I decided to dunk them and switched them to the tub. I also cut the cakes
In half because I used the tall hp jars and they kept leaning and I thought they might fall
over. (I also had a couple cakes that I decided to crumble because I wanted to try a small casing profect.)This seemed to work out ok untill my fruits started getting steaks up the side of the
stems. So I used h202 to try and fix the problem. This has worked well untill I tryed the casing project in a small pyrex dish. Because they were in the same tub I figured I would spray the top layer a little with the h2o2 to keep them from getting the cobweb. When I sprayed the top layer some of the mycilium poking out of the top shriveld up and over the past 24 hrs has  turned a greenish blue. My question is ...is this bruising or green mold? I have isolated the dish but is it ok or should I toss it?

Sounds like a severe lack of FAE.

Problem #1....aquariums have sucked for 20 years...they do a shitty job at dissipating gasses.

Perlite does not go in a monotub.

Perlite sitting the the bottom of a tub with no holes under it is pointless as air cannot pass up thru it to humidify anything.

Perlite is used to humidify a properly built SGFC and that is it.

No idea what that even means....but I like steak....

Peroxide is ONLY used to combat cobweb mold once you know you have it.

Other than that you are just damaging the mycellium for no reason.

It's damaged mycellium....the peroxide burned it.

Start over, following this tek.

Thanks for the quick response the tub I'm using now does have have hole all over it and the word steak was supposed to be brown streaks sorry i didn't check my spelling and I prob did burn it alittle that's really what I was wondering about. I am using an air pump also I forgot to mention that. And I was using a small ultrasonic humidifier untill the cobweb showed up at which point I removed it

Brown streaks are normal....

And air pump is not sufficient.

Just build a proper SGFC per the tek linked, and place it in a room with no running fans.

Mist the cakes directly with a fine mist until they glisten, then fan out the chamber.

Mist again once the water you previously applied has evaporated. Do this all the way thru fruiting.

It is really that simple.

Sorry about the funny wording I was trying to post from my phone and it was glitchy. There are a lot of holes in the tub I'm using now.All over it on all sides only a few inches apart. The humidity is good and the air exchange seems good. The fruits I'm getting off of my cakes seem good now ever since I used the h2o2. Its only the newest Pyrex dish I put in the tub that this happened to. But it was prob burnt by the h2o2 like u said and is just bluing thanks for confirming for me. I think I'm gonna keep it separate from the other cakes just to be sure.

Oh also it wasn't just brown streaks I got a few harelipped caps they seemed dry and gnarled and twisted and a couple splits that's why I thought it was the cobweb and the only reason I used the h2o2.
