Involved in a hit and run
    #19098652 - 11/07/13 01:15 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

I was involved in a hit and run two days ago. I was backing out of my parking space, and hit the car behind me. I almost hit the curb to my right and was focused on that rather than what was behind me. I was gonna stop and leave a note, but then I remembered the three times my car has been hit with no note, and I said fuck it I'm out, it's my turn. So I floored it out of Taco Bell, and noticed a guy in a big ass diesel pickup that was following me out of there. I had figured he saw the whole thing, but I had already started to speed away, so there was no turning back. He chased me for a few miles, but I toasted him and he couldn't keep up. Think fast and the furious lol.

So I've figured he could have gotten my plates, and decided that I'm probably fucked. Turns out I was right. I got a call from a local officer about an hour ago, saying my car was involved in an accident. He also said the witness could identify the driver. I denied that I was the driver, and said I let my roommates borrow my car often, and I would ask them if they knew anything. I have a meeting with him tomorrow at one. The plan is to say I talked to my roommates and they said they haven't driven the car. I'm going to ask him where again it happened, and act surprised when he says Taco Bell. I'll say that I thought I hit the curb and didn't feel the other car. That's the best I can come up with..I have also hired a lawyer.

I know I should have just left a fucking note, but I am a dumbass and that's what dumbasses do. The shittiest part about this whole deal is that I have a plea deal for probation, that if I don't commit any crimes for the duration of probation, my weed charges will be dropped. So if I do get smashed for this  I'll likely be getting my weed charges too. With only a month left on probation..fml lol

I had to tell someone, so thanks for hearing me out shroomery.

You probably shouldn't lie at this point. All they have to do is get security footage of you at Taco Bell, or ask the employees' who worked that day if they can identify you, in which case, you're fucked.
Get out of town, man. Get out of town.

If they don't have cameras, which they probably do, atleast inside by the cash register, then deny everything get a haircut, go tanning, whatever, try to change your appearnce a lot.

Or just never go meet with the cop and stay out of town.

I've already got a haircut  since then lol. It used to be super fucking long and now it's pretty short. I look completely different for sure though. I don't think I am going to deny that it was me, but just try and convince him I didn't know I hit the car behind me. That plays along nicely with the fact that I said I didn't get in a wreck recently I think. My lawyer said to not admit to anything and as long as they can't prove I knew I hit it, I should be good. Just gotta act super surprised and apologetic, and hope I can take care of this out of court. Probation is reporting, this was supposed to be my last month. So leaving isn't really an option. Fuuuuuck I'm seriously dissapointed in my judgement skills though haha. If it does go to court maybe I can push it back until my current probation is over? Idk if they could hold it against me at that point...innocent until proven guilty, right?

probation is wierd, but I would try to push it back either way.

also your not knowing you hit him story will be foiled by you speeding away and trying to lose the guy that was following you.

idk seems possibly beatable, but they'll probably still charge you.

I wouldn't go talk with anyone though, maybe give him a call and say you didn't do it and you're a busy person that doesn't want to be bothered with this, and if they want to charge they they can send you the ticket or whaatever.

Never talk to cops, they'll always try to trip you up.

Good point. I guess I could try denying that I was running away from the guy and I was running late or something. Idk. I might just be fucked. Lol. I was planning on bringing the lawyer to the meeting, so I wouldn't slip up. I'll keep you posted on how it goes though

You could say that a guy was chasing you for an unknown reason and you didn't want to be raped so you kept driving :shrug2:

But honestly I would deny, deny, deny

Don't even admit you knew someone was following you, I wouldn't at least.

You're gonna say you thought you hit the curb and then the officer's going to ask then why were you speeding away. Don't bother lying might as well own up to your mistakes and rough it out. Good luck dude.

Sorry, brah, you're not a dumbass. You're just an ass.

You did not leave a note because people have hit you and not left a note in the past, which means you knew what it felt like to be fucked over and you didn't care. Then you sped off trying to out run another vehicle. Then you tried to sell out your roommates. You sound like an awful person.

So, the basic facts are:

1.  You're in a diversion program to give you a second chance for fucking up.
2.  While in said diversion program, you hit a car by accident.
3.  Instead of simply leaving a note, you decide to:
    a. Fuck the owner of that car, and
    b. Fuck yourself

Nice job, bro.

Yeah honestly you deserve whats coming to you OP. Next time dont be a douche and just leave a note. Who cares what has happened to you in the past.

I have had my truck hit before and the person didnt leave a note... shit happens, oh well.

Then probly 2 years later I was in my truck and for some reason I thought it would be a good idea to have my foot on the clutch while I was checking my phone in my parking spot   I end up rolling backwards and my wheels were turned just enough to clip the back end of another truck. I got out mad as fuck at myself for being so stupid but the guy was very cool and all he asked for was $20 for some touch up paint... Moral of the story, If you're a fucking douche it will come back to bite you in the ass. If you're a respectable member of society and do whats right, everything will be fine.

Well I slept maybe three hours last night. My anxiety levels are through he roof. Got a meeting with the popo later at one. I know I made a big mistake, and I am seriously dissapointed in myself. I am surprised at the amount of people judging my morals from one action! I bet most of y'all who are calling me out, have done at least one morally questionable thing in your existence. It wouldn't be fair for me to judge you based off of you in your worst moments, would it? Thanks for the input though guys.

Sure, we all make mistakes. Whether or not you learn from those mistakes and put forth an effort to change is what determines your character.

I've only caused an accident once, and it was because I was parked on a downhill and my transmission didn't catch when I was trying to reverse.  Almost didn't leave a note.  Glad I did because my football coach saw me the whole time :burke:.  The person I hit didn't even care.  Good luck OP.

I have never caused or been in an accident because I actually know how to drive, and I do it often.
I usually think less of people who admit to causing one.

Best part about all of this is you probably could have stopped and got out of your car to check the other car. There probably would have been zero damage. You were backing up and trying to avoid a curb, how fast could you have possibly been going? You hit and ran from a scene that you probably wouldn't have even had to leave a note for.

My only advise  to you,  Do exsactly what your attoney tells you to do.Don't tell the cops anyting, Have your Atorny presant at any interagation by the police.  At this point its consider a hit and run. I think that might even be a lower case felony not sure but sure it is a mistameaner. Might even be some Jail time envloved.

Sorry dude. These are the things that matter — and it wasn't one action, it was a series of actions you took in order to evade your responsibility. Honestly, not leaving the note wouldn't have been a huge moral failing if it wasn't  followed by your "fast and furious" style car chase. But, someone who had time to consider what he had done — yet still chose to accuse his roommates when confronted — is not a trustworthy or upstanding person. Sorry. The fact that you appear to have posted this thread to gain some kind of sympathy doesn't help your case, either.

Why do you hate Mexicans, bro?  Why you gotta keep the brown man down like that?

The OP should lose his license and have his car impounded and sold at auction.  Failing that, he should voluntarily give up his license and sell his car, using the proceeds to pay the guy who he hit.

It was a series of actions that I felt I had to take after deciding to not leave a note. No way in hell I was gonna stop for that guy following me. I am not throwing my roommates under the bus. I am gong to the meeting with the cop, and telling him I talked to my roommates and they said they haven't driven my car recently. I will then say "it must have been me, where did you say this happened again?" And act shocked when he says Taco Bell...."but I thought I just hit the curb!" But I expect someone as morally high up as yourself would want me to fuck myself over and tell the truth here. Not gonna happen lol. Takin this shit to trial if need be.

You need to pick a story, geeze.

You thought you hit something or not?  You thought you hit the curb or not?  You're not sure if you were even driving or not? Lastly, you're not sure if you were even at Taco bell or not?

You can't go back and forth its gonna fuck your case up

You're correct.  They're going to ask him questions to corner him.  A lie will only indicate consciousness of guilt.  He's better off saying nothing and letting his lawyer argue his case after he sees what evidence they have.

If they have a video of him speeding away, he's gonna have to explain why he's speeding if it wasn't because he knew he hit the car.  If they have a video that shows the hit at an angle that he couldn't have not known, same deal.  Lying in the interview will hurt him immensely later.

Sorry I guess I am not great at making myself clear, my mind has been racing the last few days. The conversation with the cop will go as following..

"No officer I haven't been in an accident recently.."

"Well my roommates and friends borrow my car often, let me talk to them and see if they know anything..."

"My roommates said they haven't driven the car lately. It must have been me. Where did you say this happened again?"

"Oh, Taco Bell? I thought I had hit the curb! I would have never left the scene if I knew I hit the car!"

"I am so sorry! I felt something but I thought that was my front bumper scraping the curb! I have no problem running this through my insurance!"

Only problem now is the high speed paul walker chase. I guess I will deny that I even knew someone was following me, and I was late for work. Idk lol. They are going to have to be able to prove it all, I'm not admitting to anything. I have one of the best lawyers in the state. Meeting is in t-1 hour

Of course it matters.  His lawyer isn't a magic man.  He's got to work with the shit soup that OP has already created.  If he wasn't on probation, this would probably be a simple issue of paying for the damage and calling it a day.  The probation adds a degree of complexity, and OP had better be very careful how he handles it.

So I think the real question here is...will this affect my current probation, that has one month remaining, if I am not found guilty or not guilty until well after the remainder of the probation. Honestly, if I could avoid a probation violation for this, it wouldn't be such a huge deal to me.

When can we start judging you on your continuing lack of judgement and moral failings? I think once they have been pointed out and you defend yourself by demonstrating the lengths to which you will continue down the same path, it's fair game.

Listen to the people who are telling you to shut your mouth and don't say anything your lawyer hasn't told you to say.

Well they are going to see you are on probation. Not to mention once they check out that your roommates had nothing to do with you, and the fact there is a witness that can IDENTIFY YOU... you are probably fucked dude. You fucked up big time...and you deserve it. Hit n Run is shitty

Sorry I guess I am not great at making myself clear, my mind has been racing the last few days. The conversation with the cop will go as following..

"No officer I haven't been in an accident recently.." LIE

"Well my roommates and friends borrow my car often, let me talk to them and see if they know anything..." SUBTERFUGE

"My roommates said they haven't driven the car lately. It must have been me. Where did you say this happened again?"  SUBTERFUGE

"Oh, Taco Bell? I thought I had hit the curb! I would have never left the scene if I knew I hit the car!"
LIE

"I am so sorry! I felt something but I thought that was my front bumper scraping the curb! I have no problem running this through my insurance!" LIE

Only problem now is the high speed paul walker chase. I guess I will deny that I even knew someone was following me, and I was late for work. LIE Idk lol. They are going to have to be able to prove it all, I'm not admitting to anything. I have one of the best lawyers in the state. Meeting is in t-1 hour

He never claimed any of those weren't lies, I don't see what your point is.

Part of my point was that his strategy of lie lie lie is not damage control, it is just more damage.

I'm not backing down on this roommate thing. That is just fucking evil. In a way, his roommates are suspects until the police decide they know who the actual culprit is. What if there is an eyewitness who describes someone that looks more like one of the roommates than OP. Well, now OP's lying won't come off as covering his own ass, but his roommate's. Shit like that happens all the time.

Yes, when it is a losing strategy. Why is it a losing strategy? They already know he did it and lying to the police is a crime.

It's not like he's reflexively lying on the spot. That is pretty understandable. No, he's premeditating a false story (ie, lie).

Why? If he lies or tells the truth it probably won't change the outcome at this point if he gets caught anyway.

The roommate thing seems fine to me, he didn't even say "Yeah that was my roommate" but rather "my roommate sometimes drives my car, let me ask him" with every intention of saying "Oh no, wasn't my roommate" just to buy some time.

I googled searched that image to find out what it was referencing.

Quote:

The League is an American sitcom that premiered on FX on October 29, 2009. The series, set in Winnetka, Illinois, is a semi-improvised comedy about a fantasy football league, its members, and their everyday lives.[1] The fifth season premiered on September 4, 2013, on FXX.[2]

Paul Scheer as Dr. Andre Nowzick: A bald, rich plastic surgeon whose naïveté makes him the brunt of many jokes. He wears what he believes to be trendy clothing, for which he is mercilessly mocked by his friends. He tries to be cool by using current slang, particularly the jargon of hip-hop culture, but he is constantly rebuked by his friends and others, such as professional football player Chad Johnson. Andre wins the Shiva at the end of Season 1 after entering a committed relationship with Shivakamini Somakandarkram (the person whose name graces the league trophy). He's hosted the last three drafts; at his house, then in Las Vegas, and then in the third season was locked out of his house during the draft as a part of the Sacko punishment, leaving time for Dirty Randy (Seth Rogen) to create a poor-budgeted porno based loosely on Andre's life. In the first episode of the second season he renamed the trophy "the Dre" which was then renamed by the rest of the crew as "the SheDre" (A hybrid of "Shiva" and "Dre"). The worship of a false god in "the Dre" results in bad luck, which is nicknamed "Draids". His Draids resulted in the worst record in the league and ultimately recipient of the Sacko. Andre's sister, (played by Sarah Silverman), has had sex with everyone in the league except Andre, Jenny, and Ruxin.

Thats ok - i know its just a ploy to post an actual photo of myself but alas, some years back i was part of a programming forum and everyone was posting pics of themselves and i got suckered into it like the doos i was, posted a NORMAL pic and some shit stain edited it so i had cum all over my face and tits. Needless to say, since then im not really hell bent on proving im a woman, well on sites like these - i never seem to have problem with gender identity in real life.

And besides, does it really matter what sex anyone is here?

Not really, but I have a feeling there are a lot of "female" posters on here that are actually males. I think it's because they feel it'll make them get more attention, and it does.

Well i guess short of posting a video of myself there isnt much one can do to prove their gender. Even pics can tell lies. Ive seen men dressed up as women and found myself feeling a bit jealous of them till i realize they have testicles, then i just feel sad, very very sad

You should be even more jealous when you find out they have testicles.  If you had testicles, you'd understand.

Ehh, you can never be certain, but sometimes you can make a good hypothesis by their posting style.

Not really, but I have a feeling there are a lot of "female" posters on here that are actually males. I think it's because they feel it'll make them get more attention, and it does.

You know Maerigan is a dude, right?

I have no reason to believe that, I have seen many pics of her, and her posting style pretty much screams girl.

And my posting style is??? That of a man who wishes to appear to be a female in order to be noticed? Wow, thats a pretty fucked up style then. Best i change it accordingly.

Any tips on how to post more like a female? Do you throw #hugsnkissess or links to cute kittens or like some other retarded poor soul do i post a thread asking people to rate my photo?

At 28 i would have thought i had this being female thing down to an art but clearly i need some work done.

Complain about the prices at the grocery store and ask for good casserole recipes. make sure you refer to your female friends as girlfriends, but don't snap your fingers when you say it, because then you're just a gay dude,

LOL @ Koods

Noted - unfortunately "girlfrieeeennnnddd" is not in my vocab - maybe im shitty at being a girly girl cos i dont like them very much so ive never really aspired to like the masses of sheep that all seem to share a collective brain cell.

As for the grocery prices - all jokes aside, they are fucken ridiculous but its my boyfriend who complains more than i do - unless if its about the toilet paper, then i win the bitch fest everytime.

Where is this OP? Jail? Holding cell? Running from the law?

You took what I said completely the wrong way. I wasn't saying you are not a female, I do not know you enough to even make a guess/form an opinion about that.

All I was saying is sometimes the way people make their posts can be indicative of their gender, and it has nothing to do with kittens, or anything like that. Sometimes girls just talk/type different than guys, not always though, it can be hard to tell. Sometimes men come off as women too me and vice versa.

Dude..just because somone hits your shit and doesn't leave a note, doesn't mean you should do it. Well you live and you learn, good luck an hope they don't try and hit you with a felony hit and run, that would really suck and at least no one was hurt. You might get a slap on the hand unless you live in a commonwealth state like me.

If he's charged he's definitely going to jail. For how long depends on alot of variables. Prior record, the magistrate working at the time, if the give him a bond or release him on his own recognizance,if the owner presses charges and if he's in a commonwealth the state will prosecute.

This thread is full of a lot of butthurt do gooders. Shit happens some times you make good decisions sometimes you make bad decisions. Good to know the Shroomery is where the worlds "Karma Police" live so I can report here if I ever feel like I did something that might mean my "moral compass" is lacking.

--------

Hope OP is alright I don't wish jail or probation violation on anyone. I Have had several friends technically break probation that never got caught for it. Different jurisdictions don't always report to each other. Couple times they pushed their trials off until they were off one probation, ya know the whole innocent until proven guilty thing. One friend even just said fuck it all and never showed up for any of his cases. He did eventually spend half a night in jail once he was caught but the law was pretty nice to him and helped him work his shit out.

Every little thing is gonna be alright:heart:  All you need is love  Nobody's right, Nobody's wrong, Life's just a game it's just one epic holiday! :peace:

They'll still let him go after a day or two, at least they will if it's anything like here.

I've failed like 10 drug tests for probation in a commonwealth, and they have yet to lock me up.

In my home state my dads on probation for a crack related offense, he got picked up for unpaid fines after my mom called the police on him for smoking crack and she told his po what he was doing and he still got out after a day.

My sister is on probation/a diversion program and she violated like 5-10 times, including catching multiple other charges, failing multiple drug tests, getting caught bringing in someone else's urine, etc... She finally got 6 months in prison only after being found guilty of domestic violence & theft. But that was after they let her off 10 other times.

My bro-in-law is on parole, he has failed multiple drug tests, stopped going to probation for months in a row multiple times, caught multiple new charges, etc... and he is still a free man.

And all three if them have extensive records.

It's pretty hard to go to jail nowadays IME.

Even if the OP has really bad luck and does wind up in jail he'll be out soon.

My best friend did 6 months for violating probation in a commonwealth on a Heroin paraphanelia charge.
You can still go to jail quite easily in some places.

OP hasn't returned to defend his abhorrent behavior, so I guess the cops didn't believe his bullshit.

dude you've got to take responsibility for your own actions. Even if it has happened to you before and no one left a note it doesn't matter. You should never drive away from a accident because it is bad karma. You need to be a man and step up to the plate. You can't just drive away because 9 times out of 10 a problem like that will catch up to you.
