People say to turn your passion into a career?

But what if you have no "passion", or if you do have one, then what if it cannot be turned into a career?
What is the conventional wisdom to do in this situation?

What do you mean by uti? And please elaborate on your situation? What do you think the correct path would have been for you?

UTI is some like mechanical trade school or some shit and "Turn your passion into your career" is their tagline in commercials.
Anyway, there are things that I'm passionate about. Sports was one of them, and after years not knowing what the fuck I wanted to do with my life or even in school I decided to study Sports and Leisure and get a job either in scholastic sports or the professional realm. Instead I just don't really care for sports as much as I used to and it's no where near any kind of passion.
It's awesome if you can find a career that fits with your passion and continue to be passionate about it. It sucks when you end up just doing stuff all the time not because you want to but because you have to. It's a great way to get burnt out on shit. I like talking about music with people, but I wouldn't like having to talk about music 5 days a week for 8 hours a day as a job.

Yeah that's one thing about "passions." School has a knack for taking "passions" that you have and turning them into something that you never want to do again. Studying a subject in a formal class can really dull the fuck out of it.
That's one reason why I think that even if I found something I was "passionate" about, that passion would not stick around for long once I began studying it in school.

My passion is not being trapped in mindless repetitive tasks and not jumping through hoops for authoritative overachievers. All my employers love me at first, and I like pretty much everything I do for a while. I'm good at lots of things, have a good attitude and work ethic, but I get bored easily.
I'm trying to hold down my current job long enough to have a decent reference and leave on good terms and maybe just hop around my current industry until I find a place and people I can tolerate in the long term. That is basically a career I guess. I see so much money flowing down here at the bottom, I get tantalized but then part of me feels like I might as well just go live in the woods and scrounge what I can to eat because I don't want to give in on certain moral and spiritual principles.

If you turn your 'passion' into your career, you will end up hating what you once loved.
I like to build my own computers or work on my own car, but fuck doing that for other people who dont take care of their stuff. They walk in with a fucked up piece of shit and you have to fix it.

But the converse to that would be making your career something you hate or are apathetic about. And is that honestly any less miserable?
By my own experience and the advice on here, professional life seems destined to be miserable no matter what.

Then get a job, you damned hippie.
Seriously though, I wouldn't turn my passion into a career, that sounds terrible. Turn the thing you're most comfortable doing mindlessly into a career. Keep your passion close to your heart and out of sight. People are fucked up.

I can actually sell you a Shroomery Associate starter kit for only $300 and then you will be well on your way to turning your mental illness into cold hard cash. That is the friend price.

If you have no passion than you need to eat more LSD.

Yeah most guys at my work totally just dick around on the internet all day, I get high as fuck while doing most of the work. They should say "Make working your passion" instead, but that sounds a little Auchwitzy...
