Tripping whilst in physical pain
    #19097603 - 11/06/13 08:34 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

My buddy and I are planning to trip (mushrooms) tomorrow.

However, my buddy has a quite severe tooth ache.

He is wondering how this will affect his experience.

Any thoughts or experiences are welcome.

Cheers!

Also, I could just feed my buddy some panadols to ease his mind before the trip right?

I'm guessing the panadol doesn't influence the trip but the placebo effect of relieving the pain definetely will...

I wouldnt do it... we all know how little niggly things can overwhelm you during a trip... toothache is not little nor niggly so i reckon it could possibly be exponentially worse.

Always be physically healthy before tripping.

One time I took LSD with some minor back pain, oh man it weren't nice at all.
Felt like my back would crack, not necessarily 'cause of the pain but because I was so aware of it and could pinpoint the pain(unlike when I was sober).

Tripping with a toothache could be considered a form of torture. Tell your buddy to go to the dentist and have it taken care of, and then trip.

I agree with all above. Minor pains, cold symtomps, headavhes or body aches can be cured at the onset of a trip, but deep nagging physical pain can really screw with a trip. I had an infected spot at the corner of my big toe where my cat scratched me. It was nagging at first, and became a central theme to the trip. I was convinced I had contracted a deadly case of cat-scratch fever, and that it was the end of my life. I mourned the loss of my own life for an hour or two, a bad trip to that point, but I was finally able to accept my own demise and it became one of my benchmark trips--the one where I learned how to pull myself out of a bad trip. Great experience, but I would recommend against doing this.

I also agree with the above posts, very true in my experience.

I tripped once with back pain. I roasted in hell.

I agree with everyone....a bad toothache is torture on its own without heightening the awareness of it with shrooms...it would be horrible id say!!!!  in saying that though the first time I smoked dmt was with an abscess...i had extracted my own and was waiting for days to try it because of the pain and couldnt wait any longer so i decided to try it regardless!!! I remember just before i came back from it a shadow of a hand was placed on my jaw...

Surprisingly when i came down from it i noticed the pain went away, and did so for a few days!!! not sure why as i dont think theres any lasting analgesic properties to it. it was a strange and beautiful first blast of dimitri!!!

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I had my buddy (who is a little inexperienced in the psychedelic realm) read through them.

He is stubborn and decided to go through with the 3,5g lemon tek as planned.

It worked out fantastically well, we both had an inspiring experience that was glowing during the onset and the peak.

We had some troubles when coming down... those mutual troubles were caused by some projection of our own internal battles on the other person. Luckily we were able to acknowledge that after the trip. We proceeded to having very inspiring talks about our deeper psyche and subconciouss trauma's affecting our everyday lives.

My friend said that he did notice the pain during the trip, but that it was a feeling he could easily shift his focus away from. This caused the pain to turn into a warm glow that was not annoying.

I'm glad it worked out for him and he didn't regret his stubbornness.

I guess there is really no manual for the use of psychedelics. It comes down to trusting your instincts and careful listening to your mental state of being more than anything!

Still, I will keep advising people against tripping if they are in any mental or physical discomfort. Appearently, if they have made up their mind, they have made up their mind and they will trip anyway

Cheers! :mushroom2:

Then his toothache couldn't have been too bad. Glad the trip was good!

Man.. these days, when I get a toothache it hurts the first day. By day two I'm in agony. Day three - i'm either on narcotics or at the dentist. Then the next two weeks are spent getting a root canal and then a crown put on. By then end I'm out at least a thousand dollars which hurts more than the tooth ever did!

Haha, I am a lucky 27 year old bastard who has never had any toothaches, nor have I had any procedures done by a dentist. Even my wisdom teeth could surface safely without having to be removed.

My dentist does say I have thin enamel which will probably start to cause trouble eventually.

tripping in pain is like being sober in pain, except you're tripping.

I love this!

I once heard someone boast about swimming on psychedelics and figured I had to experience this as it must be the next best thing since sliced bread...

It was exactly as you described.

It was like swimming whilst sober, except I was tripping.

Nothing special, nothing disastrous. Just swimming.

I don't recommend it, but I've mixed semisynthetic opioids (uhm, oxycodone I think) with mushrooms with no obvious ill effects.  The one would kill the pain, and the other would make you trip. But the trip gets a bit fuzzy which I didn't like.

If you trip with a deep pain (like a bad sprain or slashed finger - done both) you'll get to experience the full depths of the pain for an extremely prolonged time and in unusually high fidelity.  That generally is highly unpleasant.

Glad it worked out though.

Last time I did LSD, I had a throbbing toothache about 20 minutes after I dropped, and took a couple IBProfane hoping it would drain the pain before it started hitting. The first half hour felt like it took years upon years to get through because I was in so much pain I couldn't even lift my head. However once the IB started kicking in, I could feel the pain draining away and I was slowly able to regain control of myself.

Seriously, it was horrible. Please don't do that to yourself. I wouldn't wish that terror on anyone.
