Did you ever look up your employee agreement to see whether or not your contractually responsible for the loss?

Geniuses don't do those simple smart things to do. Geniuses also are so smart apparently that they fail to realize that their checks are held back a week and the check the genius just picked up was for the week prior to this incident.
But hey he tells me how dumb I am so I must be wrong. I might know more about the geniuses pay then all mighty himself.
Who woulda dun thunk it duet herrr

I pretty sure it is against federal labor statutes to dock someone's pay. Essentially, if you are making close to minimum wage, and they take $20 out, you'll be making less than minimum.

False
If in the signed agreement if it states that if you due to negligence on your part and didn't fallow the training and cost them money you can and will be docked for the amount that it costs to reimbursed the company.

Our paychecks have a 1-week lag, so if they took it out of my "current paycheck", it's entirely possible it's next paycheck that it went out of.

I find it hard to believe this would be a corporate policy. However, even if it were, what I said about his pay ending up being less than minimum wage is true.

True. If I got docked $20 (would never happen though) I would be all "ahhhhh waaaaa noooooo that took me a whole 45 minutes to earn, ahhhh) and then go on with my day.
Fucking $20. Really who gives a fuck.

Exactly. And that loss for mcdonalds gets written off against profits.it costs them almost nothing to eat it.
$20 means a lot to people who make minimum wage. People who make twice minimum wage.

I guess but its really like what two packs of smokes nd a soda. Two packs of smokes and a soda is worth this much drama?
Two hours of work is worth a headache lasting how long long now?
Seriously people need to get priorities on order.
I would understand if he had a kid to care of and lived alone with no family help but for fucks sake he can drink at a bar and his mommy cleans his room for him. $20 fucking dollars. Really?

My argument isn't based upon the merits of the OP. I think that a policy like that, if real, is disgusting. It isn't too far from saying an employee is responsible for money that is stolen in an armed robbery.

Are there businesses that make employees pay to cover when their drawer is short? I've never heard of that. The way you deal with that, is by firing the employee if it happens too much or the amount is too large.

That's cool. I'm sure they get to keep any extra cash, as well.
Aren't managers the people that are ultimately responsible for this kind of shit? Honestly, if shit really works like this, the people should rise up and eat their overlords.
This is what unions are for.
