Who here chasing ambitious futures?

I'm an actor and am on this road till I make it or die. It's been quite a grind and sacrifice, I feel like I don't want to go back to a conventional 9-5 lifestyle although the comfort seems nice.
Who else is taking the road less traveled?

I definitely chase an ambitious future when it comes to my Aikido training. As far as career goes though, no I make enough money and am happy having a job without too much responsibility.

I don't know, I'm kinda in the middle. I want to be a traveling musician but I can't see a way out. I used to just be wild as fuck and barely scrape by but that got me no where but closer to prison so I chilled out a little and now I'm looking more at nature lol damn, I wish I could find some like minded folks who wanna just jam with me out in the trees and under the stars.

I'm chasing a career in physics, which I suppose is ambitious (?). It's not necessarily removed from the "9 to 5" thing that so many people on these boards are afraid of, but I like doing research. Based on my grad school experience thus far I'd say physics is more of a 24/7 type of job.

I am but being a realist I know I have more potential than the rest of my peers. I'm 10x better than they are at what we all try to do. At least my old professors said I was the most intellectually capable student they've witnessed in their combined 80 years of teaching so yeah if someone is going to achieve a lot well thats me.

I'm trying to get my degree in engineering. It's honestly a very ambitious goal for me. Most of my friends either don't go to college, or chose to study something relatively easy compared to what I'm doin. All I hear em talking about is chilling and having a good time. My classes are real stressful for me right now, I think I'm gonna be able to get through it though. Once I'm done my main goal is to move out to Silicon Valley

I suffer from a pretty severe lack of ambition though
I just want to live the easy life, preferably in New Zealand...

Have you been to new zealand man? I visited for the first time recently and it was absolutely incredible. If shit starts goin south in the states, NZ is on my potential places to head. Everyone there seemed super chilled out. I've heard the drug laws are strict but it may be worth the sacrifice

No but I work at a garden center that is an employee owned business. Basically you earn shares in the business from working there. The longer you've been the more shares you earn. I guess it can add up to pretty good money after a while.

I'm at a crossroads in life.
Quit school, choose an ambiguous future of being a producer/photographer/musician/artist Or commit to school, become a landscape architect and join a prestigious firm that my mentor founded.
I think I'm gonna get through school though, because the artist gig can wait.

I finished school and currently have a career that sustains my needs and allows me to proactively prepare for retirement. At this point, it's a matter of keeping myself amused and figuring out how to continue to develop as a person and as a spouse.

I feel that. I'm gonna finish this biochem degree, probably a masters and maybe a doctorate if i'm not fed up by that time and then drop out into this little Yurt Village i visited and spend my days with some chill folk just focused on the day to day living. So yeah, not so ambitious. I may take up a research position for fun at some point, but my main reason for being ambitious with schooling is just so people can get off my back when i decide that roads not for me. I've already discovered I'm incapable of living happily in middle class america. However, the tree folk are quite pleasant to be around

That would put you in a very high percentile in physics. Sadly that really doesn't matter. Many discoveries happen by accident?
William James Sidis graduated Harvard at age 16. He was predicted to be one of the greatest mathematicians of the century.. he went on to become a fucking recluse/weirdo publishing nothing more than a bunch of stupid languages he made up......

mediocrity has never been an option for me. but while i enjoy the finer things in life and am not working towards a future of incessant financial struggle, prestige is not what i'm after. i want to live a life that is my own and do the things i want, study and explore the worlds of ideas that interest me, travel, and ultimately have someone to come home to with her own set of goals with whom i can create our own world. if all happiness is to you is a 100K salary and a big house then i deeply and truly pity you. my advice to the younger people in this thread is to take what you love and try to make that your world and the rest of the good things will follow.

i'm not saying there's anything wrong with having or wanting nice things. but if that's all you're after, especially in pursuing an education, it's pitiful. to me nice things are well, nice, but they ultimately don't have any real value in comparison to intellectual and emotional growth.

I'm a barista right now making around 9-10 an hour depending on tips... In my dream state, I'd love to front man a band with rhythm guitar and vocals. Already have two albums recorded with some serious quality thanks to a friend covering bass, drums, synth and production. This sounds cliche as hell but sex, drugs, rock n' roll.

i completely agree with your sentiment here.
you should try telling this to mellowparty though, he seems to be confusing the two aspects here. he's acting as if his intellectual and emotional growth is like that of a giant house and billing a 401k, whilst his actually accomplishments are slim to none.

yet you continuously attempt to. interesting.
PS: a PhD is a good thing to have. knowledge, also, is a good thing to have.
neither are fundamentally exclusive to people who are happy, however. YOU clearly aren't happy, so don't judge "the druggie losers" that you so apparently are yourself.
but look who i am talking to. another crass wanna-be who thinks because he's eked out a living or in your case, a PhD; that he's reached the zenith of human capabilities, and can insult anyone who doesn't aspire to his beliefs.
another IDIOT to me.

Oh how long have you been acting for? I know my brother used to be an actor along time ago, but he doesn't act any longer. He doesn't pretend to be someone he isn't, he won't ever try to put himself in the shoes of anyone else, and if asked he would probably state that he wished to go into someone other than that persons shoes instead.
I actually know this actor that is my brothers friend, they met at a bar a year ago. But he was taken out of the bar because he was saying something which they felt the urge to resist to allowing it to present itself.
As if purposely trying to prevent you from acknowledging that you don't wish to act anymore. Sometimes we'd rather no longer choose to act and decide to do something else instead, perhaps something which we haven't done in a long time and feel we should do again. Then we sometimes find ourselves doing the same thing again at times, but then we won't decide no longer to do it and reveal a choice to do it another time. As if asking for a special request to not be seen with someone they never acted with, and who must have got the wrong idea and assuming he was an actor.
My brother tried to persuade me to acquire actor like traits to fulfill later attainments.
We might choose to attain something in which we had never wished to get the idea that it was inviting you to discover it. As if the discover of this object was something you knew but didn't wish to know.

LOL, sure bud. keep reverting to that.
drugs failed you, and you're gonna go all gung ho against them and yet, you're still gonna sell drugs to the people who are like how you once were, when you were doing drugs.
and then hate them all at the same time. it's a study in contradictions, you s'head.
is that coherent enough for ya? or do you need it spelled out? D E L U S I O N A L.

you certainly seem against drugs, maybe i was mistaken. but you equate anyone with having done drugs, as someone who is a morose un-blinking idiot.
you come across more yourself, when you spout that shit about how "you cleaned up" and now "you're making beaucoup strides" in your life, but "everyone else is an idiot".

Some of the most intelligent people I hang out with do drugs all day long and I certainly look up those people without giving them shit about their drug use. Then there is the shroomery scum giving me shit for expressing my ambitions in this thread. So what if I'm really good at what I do and everyone else IRL thinks the same. People jumped on me immediately thinking I'm being arrogant and stuff, maybe cause they got annoyed that someone else is going forward in life while they're stuck. It wasn't me who started giving shit to others.

oh, hey, good on you then. but i really don't see how they thought you were arrogant. upon reading the first page over, sVs used that word... no one else did. the most you were called out for was "not being humble" and isn't it kinda true? so waht? nobody is ever always humble, so why not just admit it? better then calling everyone out (for shit that you have no evidence for) and then saying it's alright, i dun cur, they're all just haters. THAT IS arrogant.
you know what annoys me, that you can change your ways around, but you don't think anyone else could because they're "too dumb"; and for real, you don't even have an proof any of the time. oh well, i can feel ya on the "people bugging rhe ever living shit out of you because they're misconceiving some bullshit about you." that's never fun.

ok, but i'll bite considering you probably think you know where this is going, and i'll humor you...
hmmm, ok, to answer your (self-serving) question... we need proof about THOSE PEOPLE WHOM YOU ARE INSULTING, as being dumb, but without reference to the only people YOU KNOW in YOUR LIFE. you know, we need references to the ACTUAL PEOPLE YOU'RE INSULTING.
i tried to make that as clear as possible. hope this answers your question. a - b... proof is not people that you've experienced as being dumb; proof is people that you are insulting of being dumb, being dumb.

I simply think that selling is better than using at least in some aspects. Also I don't do anything illegal.

I've got my black belt and done a good bit of world travel, although not nearly as much as I would like to. It's in the works. No PHD for me though. I ain't into the whole educational system thing. I could probably have a PHD in natural entheogens, but whatev. Cabin by a lake- I just rent one when I need one. I like to be in society where I can have food prepared for me, and go to aikido classes.

With a background in Judo, you would probably have a nice time with Aikido.

You would need a lot more determination than that for a PhD.

It's not what you say, it's the way you say it.
No... it's what you say too.
What's the point of giving advice when you feel you have knowledge or experience to share, if you're just going to do it in a way that makes you sound like you're just trying to demonstrate what a hot little shit you think you are?

Not necessarily. Already has his masters -- its not like he lacks the motivation to pursue something. Said he'd likely switch fields for the Ph.D. I would assume one would switch to something they had interest in?
I can relate to him, only reason i popped in to offer up my $0.02.

Well yeah, I am not planning to do it for at least one year, probably longer, so I have time to think about it. I could continue in my field but I want to broaden my horizons and study something different, when I do go back to school. First I am going to travel the world though.

The way I say it like I didn't mean to be condescending as I really respect that moonshoe wants to do a PhD and I only wanted to give him advice not to get into that he's unsure about (tho he seems to realize that). I've seen plenty of people simply get on with a PhD because they can and they regret it so much afterwards. Even if you like the given subject you get into you could still hate your PhD more than anything in life simply because your supervisor is a major dickhead. It happens more often than not.

My wife is an actress and stand up comedian. She does the occasional audition and comedy club, but she avoids most of the ego assault by setting up her own gigs at colleges and using word of mouth instead of relying on capricious agents.
