fitting in
    #19094911 - 11/06/13 11:26 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

ok this post is going to be all over the place

what is fitting in?

i seen posts on fourms(not just this one) like, i always be myself and i have all sort of friends, hip-hoppers, rockers, nerds, jocks  ect

but dosnt everyone? is there anyone who just has one type of friends?

i also seen a post that said that the type of person/role you had in high school is what you are like for life

but what if you just moved to a different area/scene, thats nothing like the one you came from, so you still have "that" personality
does this mean you are now original/not trying to fit in, or does it still count as fitting in because thats how you would fit in then?

Fitting in to me only means that you don't feel awkward or ostracized in a given group, and that you are generally accepted by the people within that group. It doesn't necessarily mean that you have to dress, talk or act like the people within that group either.

I've met people who only socialize within their preferred subculture, namely ravers, hipsters and wannabe gangsta thugs. I think that's short sighted and silly but lots of people do adjust to the clique style of friendship when they are developing, and seem to have a hard time breaking out of that. That said I don't believe that who you are in high school determines who you are the rest of your life. That reeks of the classic high school logic that brought us such hits as, "If you don't get laid by 18 it's never going to happen," and "If you're not popular now you never will be."

How many "popular" girls in high school get lost in the sea of generic sorority chicks, never to reclaim their popstar status? How many HS football stars are now fat miserable drunks with shitty jobs? How many nerds are now making big bucks and training mma and shit? I've seen more than a few of these examples irl.

I've just always done me and dressed as I pleased.

Hence why I will admit to liking Justin Beiber and I feel no shame in wearing my ugg boots and leggings.

I get along with all kinds of people though.
