Drying question.

So recently I picked some of these little guys and I decided to let half dry on a fan and the others I put directly into a sealed mason jar, the ones in the mason jar the skins turned indigo blue, and now they are left looking gorgeous, question is does this affect them in anyway? Because I would really enjoy doing this every time, the skin is left looking beautiful. --- Thanks for you replies, URAUGH

Placing wet mushrooms in a sealed jar will just make them rot.
You want them cracker dry before storing them like that.

I am saying if I place them in a mason jar for one hour the skin turns blue/indigo, I than take them out and place them on a fan to become cracker dry. What I am wondering is, making them become that dark blue will that affect them in the long run? Potency, mass etc.

I think the blue bruising is psilocybin degrading, or it might be psilocybin converting to psilocin.
Either way it isn't good, do not do it.

It is neither.
There is no scientific evidence that supports this.
Bruising has nothing to do with potency.
Exposure to oxygen degrades actives tho.
This is why we want them to get cracker dry and sealed up as soon as possible.

It has something to do with psilocybin, that is for sure.

LeopardMan said: What we know for sure is that psilocin is directly related to the blueing process.
That has nothing to do with potency though, cause there are many alkaloids which could cause the mushroom to stain blue and psilocin is just one of them.
Truth is we still don't know what exactly causes bruising in cubes

Although most species of psilocybin-containing mushrooms bruise blue when handled or damaged due to the oxidization of phenolic compounds, this reaction is not a definitive method of identification or determining a mushroom's potency.

Did you just quote wikipedia?
That quote did not help you.....read what it says after your underlined statement.

I know I shot myself in the foot by linking wiki.
4-hydroxy dimethyltryptamine (psilocybin) is a phenol.
Gymnopilus Spectabilis bruises blue on the east coast and is active while the same species from the west coast is inactive and does not bruise.
