when i came into this thread i didnt expect to say yes, but after seeing the comments posted, i believe that probably (guessing here) at least 50 % of this continent is malnourished
starving, well i dont see how you could starve unless you lived in bum fuck no where
any town of a decent size and every city has food banks and what not

I've been poor enough to be malnourished and have had to go hungry more than a few times. Thankfully my fiancee and I are in a better situation now.

Well, I'm not sure if it was entirely the going hungry part, because I was also under an immense amount of stress at that time to find a less shitty job that paid a livable wage, but I was pretty depressed and had horrible nightmares every night.

I knew this dude that got scurvy, I think it was more a result of eating like a retard rather than poverty though.

Yeah, absolutely, it's hard not to run into people who are struggling to find their next meal when there's a huge homeless population where you live.
I guess I could've qualified as "malnourished" to some extent when I was living off of internship stipends for a brief while. Wondering whether to buy essentials like toothpaste, TP, etc., or some food.
If I had reaally reaaally done my homework I could've eaten much better, but I was well below poverty line living in a horrible room in North Philly that ate up 3/4's of my income and not having the time to obtain a second job(internship was a 9-5, that summer I had classes from 8-10pm everyday). I ate about one meal a day on average, sometimes two, but normally I was running around and would usually have a sandwich from subway or if I was feeling it, just a frozen yogurt.
Could've lived a lot more frugally, but up until then even though I had jobs I was NOT used to poverty in any sense as my parents supported me and I came from a "cushier" situation than most people, I guess. Wouldn't trade that experience for the world though, it taught me a lot and it put a whole shitload of stuff in perspective real fast.....also wish I would've used the FOOD BANK that occurred across the street from me weekly. I had no clue what it was, I was that sheltered(honestly, it's kind of miraculous I didn't run into any problems living where I was living, and just being as fucking stupid and naive as I was in terms of street smarts), I just would open up the door on wednesday mornings to crowds of homeless people gathered on and infront of my stoop and even though some of the participants drove away in cars and stuff..I just never thought I deserved to go check it out, oddly enough. I was surviving on about 450(before rent) a month in a major northeastern city, but I never really considered the situation dire..just really, really shitty and I got sick of eating potatoes.

Isn't scurvey commonly associated with seafood? Or rather, people at sea? It's a lack of fruits and veggies in the diet, which are almost impossible to get fresh out at sea. If they can get fish out at sea and still get scurvy, I guess it's a combination of lack of fruits/veggies and seafood not having enough vitamin C.
-------------------- In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion. [Carl Sagan, 1987 CSICOP keynote address]

I was under the impression that it wasn't that uncommon for a person to have a complete lack of fruit and veggies in their diet.
