Wavy Caps?
    #19091704 - 11/05/13 06:43 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Stem bruised blue. I was at my friends house last season, and there was a wildfire of these growing. Literally every 10-40 feet I would find at least 20 of these in a patch. He says it's this way every year.
There must be clear up to 5,000 of them considering all the dead trees and them all being the same type of tree
Please tell me this is the cyanescens lol

Those are pics from last year bro.
The stems are white and bruise blue.. and the gills start to turn a little brown after they've grown for a while. I'm just double checking because we're about to go hunting.

I just need to double check to make sure I get the right ones.
1) Obvious wavy cap
2) Has a nipple
3) White stem
4) Bruises blue

.... if all of those pass is it cyanescens or any sub species? Or am I missing any info? I'm assuming the gills' color doesn't matter if all the other specs pass..

I have no reason to lie..

These aren't as dark as the ones I'm seeing in pictures, I know. But they did bruise blue.

regardless...

I'm trying to gather all the info I can on how to identify these. I'll be at a place with no internet connection.

Hex, didn't you say you live in TN?

You claimed not to be a novice but don't know what a cyan looks like or where it grows?

Yes, and they will kill you in 36 hours.  Do more homework and

Okay. How about this.

1) Obvious wavy cap
2) Has a nipple
3) White stem
4) Bruises blue
5) Brown/purple spore print

After all those specs pass, safe to eat??

I didn't collect a spore print but now I understand how this might not be a cyanescens due to the bright gills.
I did find quit a few of them with brown gills. I was just too unsure so I left them be. I should have just put them all in bags and took them home! Dx

You should just always post a good ID request with all info, and good pics, and wait for T.I. to give you the ok.  That's my two cents.  That being said, it sounds like you don't live in the right place to find Psilocybe cyanescens...

Do you or do you not live in the pacific north west?

People have been very constructive in trying to help you, you're the one who has been ignoring the advice given to you by the best minds on here.

A simple regional answer will tell right away if it's even possible for that to be a cyan, which it IS NOT.

Seriously, start listening to what the TIs are telling you.  Otherwise you are going to end up poisoning yourself with your current attitude....not that I have anything against natural selection.

1) Obvious wavy cap
2) Has a nipple
3) White stem
4) Bruises blue
5) Brown/purple spore print

these five key points? I'm just trying to be 100%

Just thought it could be slightly possible for these to be the ones. I just saw a ton of wavy caps and thought I'd ask a few questions. I haven't picked any.

You are not going to find a cyan out there, period.  There is no point in looking for them.

Please post a proper ID request when you want mushrooms identified.  There is a template for them in the top of the hunting forum, use it!

You need to understand that you are not even at novice level yet, you are a complete beginner and need to understand and acknowledge that.  That's not an insult to you, it's setting you in the right mind frame to make this a safe and fun activity.  Mushroom identifying is not one of those things where you get to be macho or fake your way through it.  If you don't know you don't know, and you don't know.  That's okay though, get it?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning%E2%80%93Kruger_effect

Go ahead and get cubes.  They're safe, easy to ID and if you don't want to taste them make tea.  I've got some bad news as well, all actives taste like that.

Not trying to be lazy, but of these
Gymnopilus aeruginosus
Gymnopilus luteofolius
Gymnopilus luteus
Panaeolus cinctulus
Panaeolus fimicola
Psilocybe cubensis
Psilocybe caerulipes

Which grow in fall/winter? I'm assuming the gyms...

Well, go find some poop and see what's coming out of it.  I think at your skill level it would be better to look for some cubes than to try and suss out gyms.

It's fall and you might be able to find some cubes in TN.

But seriously, do some more homework first and always assume you are an amateur.  That's what I consider myself after five years of hunting actives and finding seven species.  I just found both gyms and ovoids today for the first time, but that's what five years of diligence will do for you.

When I find something for the first time I like to take it home, ID it by keying out it's features on a dichotomous key and checking with TIs on here.  If I have a shadow of a doubt, I throw it out.

Remember, there is zero point to arguing with the mods and TIs on here.  They know better, period.

You can kill yourself by fucking up in this hobby, your life is in your own hands.  Don't let natural selection have it's way :rofl:

Be more constructive in your self-education.

You ate an amanita without a confident ID.

You ask if this is a wavy cap, and its obviously not.

You really need to reevaluate your fungi knowledge.

Buy some more books, build a knowledgeable foundation.

And don't eat anymore mushrooms until you can ID without doubt.

Stop telling people to be more constructive when you have no legs to stand on here.

You could potentially find any of these in the fall/winter.
And even spring and summer.

Just start looking, read your books, take pictures, make habitat and seasonal notes, post for IDs, learn.
