Is technology slowing conquering the world?
    #19091045 - 11/05/13 04:38 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

  This has always been in the back of my mind. Humans spend a majority of their time looking at a screen, it's like were being brain washed. People will sit in front of a TV for hours and just stare. Humans are the only species that interact with technology, is this a coincidence? Look at you right now your self right now, your starring at a computer screen when you could be out enjoying the REAL world! What do you think about this? Does technology provide any real benefit to our lives? Or is it all just a distraction covering up reality?

Technology provides all sorts of benefits, recreational or otherwise.  How could you even question that?

Ya but what if all the benefits were an illusion that we cant see past. Like look at our planet ,we our destroying it. We are basically the earths cancer and you think technology is beneficial?? Mabye to the human race but where would the world be if we never existed? It would probably look a lot better than it does now. I think technology shows how selfish we really are. Its a luxury not a necessity.

False, one example I can come up with off the top of my head is deer eating from a deer feeder, and there are many other exaples.

Technology is a weird thing. Like you said it connects us while isolates us.

Its scary to think just how much our lives are dependent on computers. Imagine if 1 day all the computers just decided to stop working unless man did what they asked. We would be the computers bitches for all of eternity just for something we could of had for free if we didn't squander it.

Something there is mysteriously formed,
Existing before Heaven and Earth,
Silent, still, standing alone, unchanging,
All-pervading, unfailing,
I do not know its name; I call it tao.
If forced to give it a name, I call it
Great (ta). Being great, it flows out;
Flowing out means far-reaching;
Being far-reaching, it is said to return.

It's just a shot away..

I expressed my ideas with the quotes already...

I think technology is amazing, but can be used in bad ways as well.

That doesn't make technology inheirently(sp?) bad though.

I agree technology is great from the human perspective, but terrible from the whole perspective.

Technology is great when its used to aid in the advancement of mankind as a species. But mostly its just used to generate revenue....:zomgwtf:

But in the words of Kevin Flynn
"Evolution. Evolution is the greatest force in the material world. Evolution will provide us the next step in intelligent life. But it will come from somewhere unexpected."

Technology is conquering the world.

I feel like it is changing the course of evolution in humans as a species, even - in some ways I feel like we're devolving, almost..

Regardless, it is a powerful, powerful force and with it comes both good and bad.

You question was "does technology provide any real benefit to our lives" not "does technology provide any real benefit to the earth".  Those are very different questions.  There is no doubt that technology benefits every single one of our lives.

I think to view technology in such a way one would need to be a pretentious ass, possibly in the 18 yr old range.

Technology can be used in great ways to enhance our lives or enlighten the mind. Sure you could stare at TV all day, but one could engage in other unhealthy habits as well.

Look at myself staring into a screen? Im navigating through my mind, learning things, stimulating my brain, and playing games.

Dont just think with your eyes and brain, use your heart instead of trying to demonize the western world and technology as a whole :commonsense:

I agree that technology can be used in positive ways. I often research interesting stuff on the internet. But what about all the other animals on the planet? We are destroying there home for our benefit. I just don't see you can say technology is great. It may be great your life, but its destroying our world! I don't know maybe this is how every intelligent species affects their planet, but it just doesn't seem right.
