mycelium
    #19090746 - 11/05/13 03:34 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

i was spraying my cake and it started turning a light brown at the top. i know this is not mold. probably the rust in our water. even smells like fresh mushrooms. my question is if you look close enough you can see the mycelium is continue growing. when i look at the bottom of the cake it's actually growing out on the tin foil. why is it doing this? it's taking over the verm layer also.

The cake probably hasn't adjusted to fruiting conditions yet. I'd increase fae and you'll probably start to see some pins. I always see the mycelium start creeping up the walls of my monotubs, I even saw a pin form on the mycelium on the wall once!

well that's the the problem i have been having. i probably made 3 or 4 totes total to fix my problem. i didn't really measure my 1st tote. then my 2nd i measured it. still had the FAE problem. then i bought and even bigger tote and i still have problems. i also bought a humidifier to help and i dont really know what to do. the room i am using nobody uses and it's quiet small so i thought maybe it's the old air that could cause the problem but other people told me that wouldn't be it.

i dont mind spending money to fix the problem accept i hear the sgfc supose to work off of natural air currents. so i am really stuck in a spot. i mist it 2-3 times a day and fan. i have been pretty discouraged about it for the past.

No man never be discouraged.
Less holes you have.. More work you have to do. (Fan & Misting wise)

Their is honestly only one important question..
Did you learn anything from this?
That's it.

Oh and if you can.. get that tub high off the ground..
Especially with that carpeting!

You can't just put red dots on the sides, you have to drill holes. Just kidding.

Do you have the holes on the bottom too?

That browning looks like yellowing to me. That may indicate drying out.

redunk your cakes, once in the fc just wait till you can no longer see visible moisture on the surface or a glisten before misting again and fan between this time. make sure theres no fan running in the room and check your perlite. evaporation off the sub is a key pinning trigger.
good luck

I know with monotubs you're supposed to have a fan somewhere in a room. You could always try that.

If that's what it looks like all across the bottom, then your holes are plugged and causing a reduction in RH.

That's why I asked if you have holes in the bottom because your cakes look dry to me.

Okay, don't fan it! Haha. If someone else says so, then don't listen to what I said. It was a wild guess that it may work, but if it's a no no then don't do it.

sgfc's work best off natural air currents in the room and a fan will dry your perlite out
