Another PDX WTF
    #19089340 - 11/05/13 10:13 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Found this monstrosity while doing a cyan hunt in PDX, so habitat- wood chips, laurel bushes. There were a few of these, but this one is obviously mutated in some way. They all seemed to have large myc clusters at the base, but again, this guy went overboard. I’m sure its common, banal, like most of my  finds, but really, And they are quite purple, although by no means am I foolish enough to think they are active.WTF is going on, man?

HA! Yeah, Hanford is pretty far North of here, so I doubt its radioactive, I hope...
And there is something reminiscent, the stems feel hollow, yes, and sorry, I forgot... caps brown, a little viscid, gills pretty sure white. The other specimens had a similar but not so pronounced bibulous purple/ myc cluster base

Hmm, that's interesting. Almost like three different mushrooms swirled together. I wonder if you could take a spore print? The stem looks Cortinarioid/Clitocyboid, the purple mycelium looks Laccaria-like, and the fused stems I see most often in Lactarius mushrooms. Very neat.

I see Laccaria amethysteo-occidentalis fucked up similarly fairly frequently.

My uneducated guess was lactarius too.
I'll grab one and print it tonight.
What an I looking for?
I feel like I actually found something cool

Now if I can just find some cyan I've run out of my medicine, need to stock up!

Lactarius don't have purple mycelium, though Laccaria and Clitocybe can.

Just the bulbous base was purple, the myc was white, and I didn't see out bruise within a few minutes.
This is fun, playing stump the experts!

And I didn't mean to sound like I have any expertise, and belied my ignorance by misspelling species names-face palm
