Coco Coir bricks always vary in size...

Is it just me, or does each and every coco-coir brick seem to be different in size... the only problem I have with this, is I use the same amount of water for each brick. The end result being, different moisture content per tub. I can ever seem to dial it in perfectly every time. It'll be too wet maybe because the brick was too small, or too dry because the brick was a little bigger than the others. Anybody else ever have this problem? If so what was your solution? Thx

Weigh it and/or add more verm or something to compensate.

I used Frank's method to balance moisture and it's worked well for me in my latest attempt.

it doesnt matter too much in my experience..i use 1 brick of coir, 3 quarts verm, and half a quart of gypsum + 4.5 quarts of water. pasteurize 12 quarts @ 140 deg for 1 hour. spawn 6 quarts to that for a 1:2 ratio. works perfect for me every time.

I've seen my bricks be anywhere from 625g -725g. I still add 4.5 qts of water and 3 quarts vermiculite.
Sometimes it's a little wetter, sometimes a little drier. But it's not an exact science anyway. It's still in the window of tolerance.

no I don't pack it in the tub or in my jars when I measure the sub to pasteurize. when I say 6 qts of spawn though I mean 6 jars, which is probably more like 5.something quarts since they're not full to the brim. there is usually a quart or so left in my substrate bucket after I measure everything out when I'm prepping it.

Never weighed a brick in my life! Heres my bulk sub recipe..
1 Brick Coir (Eco Earth) 1/2 Bag of Verm (8 Quart Bag) 6 Quarts of water
I think im gonna start adding gypsum again though, everybody else seems too! Reading Franks tek he says Field Capacity is about a dozen drops? Is this correct?

To me field capacity is when it feels moist and won't drop any water out until you squeeze it very tightly

When I go stock up on eco-earth the bricks are all different sizes. Out of curiosity I weighed several of them one day and even though they were different sizes they all weighed the same. The process they use to compress them into bricks must not be consistent but they are all still the same amount.
