Not sure what you have there exactly presto website does not offer a manual for a 65qt pressure canner or cooker or anything 65qt....but as long as its not an electric one it's made to get hot a gas stove won't hurt it

im assuming he meant to say, 6.5 as they do make those.
with that, you can proly find just a cheap hot plate from any kind of a store like, walmart, target, home depot maybe.

I have a presto. I have brought it to pressure probably 8 times now(plus simmering for each one) on a gas stove full blast and have had no problems. I have heard gas stoves can ruin them, but I have noticed nothing. Just make sure you put enough water to go up the sides a couple inches because the heat of a gas stove hits the bottom of the pan and then goes up the sides.

I've used cheap one-burners and they take forever to heat.
For safety reasons, keep this in mind when shopping for burners:

PC's have a BTU safety rating. I would look at the BTU rating of your burner and compare it to your PC's safety rating. Just a safety tip.

Use a gas burner if you want. You have to throttle it back any way. If the gas was on too high the rocker/weight would be going wild. You don't want that anyway. I only ever use my gas stove with my PC I have to set it at about 1 on the dial.

If I'm not mistaken it's half yours if you're paying rent.

I actually blew the rocker off of my 941 on my outdoor cooker. I turned the corner to check on it, and by the time I got to it, it was on the ground! That was a close one.

you can put it on high to get it going and then turn it down to med-low.
so if your stove is gas and numbered 1-10, start it off at 7-8 and then turn down to 4-5

I'll run a test for you. I have 1000Watt GE single Burner model 169215. It has GE logo on front, but stamped by Wal-mart on the bottom.
I'll post the results when the rocker starts moving.

I've never heard this before. I have a very powerful gas stove and I always set my pc on it at 10 until it gets rocking. Then I back it down to about 5 to keep it going. I've never once had any problems and I've done at least 15 sterilization a with it. Never any problems.

If it's your kitchen gas stove, then it may not be as much of an issue.
The safety issue arises with those big-ass outdoor ones. That's the main reason I mentioned it.
Some of the restaurant grade gas stoves get really hot though. I could see those easily being over 12000 BTU.
The safety concerns are for someone who isn't paying attention. If you keep an eye on it and don't get distracted, then just turning the heat down is just fine.
The problem is that when you are being distracted, you don't realize you are being distracted.
I would imagine the risk is higher during the "bring up stage". I just listen for the hiss or the rocking. But if I get distracted and have 18000 BTU gas burner going full blast, it could spell danger.

After 45 mins, my water is 180F. I forgot how slow this thing was. I turned it off. Life's too short. Use this info to help make your purchase decision.

Ive done tons of spawn with a gas stove and a 23qt canner.
Just set it to about 3/10 for the entire time. Let it come up to temp that way.
You can set it high, and adjust when it reaches pressure, but IMHO, it doesn't save enough time to warrant the risk. The aluminum bases also don't cope well with direct gas flame. It's not just due to maximum BTU output

I bet you a lot of people wanted to see someone do it following up on it. 45 min is pretty ridiculous though.
