2LB Spawn Bag -- Questions
    #19088757 - 11/05/13 05:59 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Hey all. I've been lurking here for awhile and finally decided to innoc. 2, 2LB bags of sterilized rye berries at 5cc's each. (Spores)

I've had a few strange occurrences that I can't seem to find any answers for with the search bar, anyways I'll continue.

First off, the air tight seal on the bags wasn't pulled apart and the bags have been in the box they came packaged in, two of the top box folds were loosely closed back up and left in my drawer(covering the bags, but still a crack for air exchange down the middle). The bags were in no way compressed by this just pushed down gently by the loose box folds.

Like two days after innoc. there was a lot of condensation, inside the bags (this may have been from the heater being too high) and now there's really no condensation at all. I figure this may have been the spore solution and the heat, I would also assume the moisture was reabsorbed by the berries because the air tight seal hadn't been completely pulled apart. I'm so new I just don't know.

Random, but three days after innoc. I found a micro-worm (.5mm long) trying access the substrate inside from the outside!! -- Have not found anything on this either.

Anyways, after lurking a bit more I found out that I needed to pull apart the air tight seal and that they need clearance for when the bags start to inflate.

Needless to say, the bags are now in a closet with clearance as of 8 hours ago, the door cracked and a small heater on a low setting away from the door. I live in a cold climate so I'm really trying to make sure the temps don't drop too low at night.

So what do you guys think the chances are I screwed something up at this point? It's only been 4 days so I don't expect to see any growth. I have a really bad feeling, but maybe I'm just being paranoid as a first timer looking for feedback.

Update:

After moving the location and allowing the substrate to breathe more I'm starting to see a lot of condensation on the bags now this is only 7-8 hours after fixing the bags last night, 4 days after innoc.
