making rye berry bags. 5lbs or so

Hi all. Another odd question from me, would a large myco bag with the .5 filter filled with 5 lbs rye berries colonize properly with pe? I was just thinking the bags are .54 cents a piece and jars are a hell of alot more then that. These would be spawned one to a mono. Or should I get the smaller bags and do say 3 lbs per bag and do 2 bags per mono?

I spent all my money on jars, and everything else.
I am able to properly sterilize, and pasturize in the PC.
I wish I bought some bags.
Watching thread.

Thats what I was thinking. Cut down on my glass expense and if one falls you dont have broken glass. I know it will work for 1 lb bags but im worried about using 5 1lb bags starting from ms with the competing genetics from each bag in a mono. Another bonus would be taking up less space. But would a 5lb bag colonize slow?

I doubt it , Five pounds Is just so much grain in one bag that It will take forever to colonize making it much easier for random contamination to occur.
I use spawn bags , just make one bag per tub , thats my advice

K I was looking at the large which is 24x8x5. Your matches the medium on outgrow. Does it hold around 3 lbs?

Doesnt work like that , Berries gain tons of weight as you hydrate them
5 lbs of dry berries will prolly net you 15 lbs wet

Thats what I was thinking, I was gussing they held 3 to 4 four times thier weight in water. I was trying to figure out how many bags my 25 lb bag of bry berries (which I was guessing made 100 lbs wet) could make. I wanted to have a rough guesstimate of how many bags I need to order. I am wanting to make 50 bags of some size and knock them up with lc pe and see how the genetic lotto plays out. The ones I reject would be given to friends to pass on the knowledge. Sounds convoluted I know.
