*swim* is in the middle of their first flush of their first grow and they noticed these weird dots on the tops of caps that continued to grow over time. They have been looking all over the shroomery and google for the past two days trying to figure out what it might be they think it might be a mutant growth or a dry bubble or some sort of contamination. please any help is appreciated the major things they wan't to know is if 1. is this a contamination or a naturally occurring growth. and 2. would it still be safe to consume them? pictures -

They look like a sclorotia type formation - which I understand are very unorthodox for cubensis, especially on TOP of the fruiting body and not in the substrate.
But alas, this appears like a normal mutation. I had something similar awhile back, I'll post a pic of it. The cakes with the mutation all produced perfectly normal mushrooms as well - and all of those knots were blued heavily after being removed... And produced no ill effects. '
This has happened to me twice with cakes. After upping RH and making sure I refrained from ANY lysol (someone suggested it could trigger fruitbody mutations) I've yet to see the issue return. Granted, I've also stopped cultivating anything but edibles

In fact, looking back, that cake produced some of the bluest specimens I've ever seen. Even handling the mycelium caused intense bluing - which you can see as a small blue patch.

It's probably just a mutant and is still fine to eat, I have never personally dealt with anything like this though.

thanks for everyones help these are in fact PES Hawaiian so that's pretty interesting, maybe hawaiian are just more likely to have mutations. also they did use lysol during inoculation and incubation to try and prevent contaminations, probably went a little overboard with it being their first grow and being extra cautious not realizing the cleaner was doing more harm than good. thanks again i'll post a photo update soon.

Ahh, they are just teenage mushrooms. Going through puberty. It's mushroom acne.

Veils popped. Pick em! I'd always pick them right as 25% of the veil lightened in colour - in the "ball to flat disc" transition period, riiight after the veil started naturally tearing.
And yeah, your mushrooms developed balls. Haha. There's a dick and ball joke in there somewhere.
