I would have been more careful to pinch them off and with most i did. Just some were quite well burried beneath the untouched lawn grass that i had to kind of lightly grab the whole lot up, including the grass, so i wouldn't just rip little bits of shrooms up and leave large bits behind.
I was in plain veiw also, there were a few others walking around the cricket pitch and i must have looked a bit dodgy walking arround the enclosed playing area, picking around at the grass.
It probably didn't help by having a hoodie on either.
I'm guessing people and the law take a dim veiw on this nowadays then.

the ones i kept were all identical and dried from slimey brown to white with black/dark bits underneath.

Oh yeah! The first two pics are golden. And as to looking dodgy scouting in urban areas, I totally relate. The other day I wanted to check a parking area that is surrounded and divided by planting beds full of wood chips. So I took my dog for a walk in there. Complete with poo bag in hand I just took it nice and slow and walked the whole thing. This is in town about a block from a police station. Obviously I couldn't just slowly walk the whole thing, staring at the plants without looking suspect. But having the dog along makes it look more like normal behavior!
