Inoculated 10 pf 1/2 pints about 3 weeks ago, about 4 of them actually germinated and some seemed like they were going good, then all on the same day they seemed to quit out.

How far along did they get and how long has it been since you saw growth?

The most colonized one got to about 12% and the other ones have small spots points of colonization, and it's been about 2 weeks since they've all stopped.
Popped open the jar lids and took a sniff and they all seem to have the same strange "sour cream and onion" smell.
I've had this smell in pf jars before while they were colonizing, but all of them had finished fully colonizing so I'm not sure if it indicates a contam, or if maybe the substrate smells this way when it gets stale/dry.

I guess it couldn't hurt to try flipping them. My temps are fine. My guess is something's up with the GE, but maybe I can coax them into going again. IT'S NOT LIKE I HAVEN'T GROWN CUBES BEFORE. /frustrated.

Yeah give them more time, once you flip your jars you shouldn't flip them back k over, that increases contam risk.
Hold on, you already opened the jars? They're most likely trash now...

Were the jars steamed?
That sour smell is certainly bacterial contamination.
Cubensis mycelium, especially aggressive genotypes - or MS genotypes - can typically outcompete bacteria, and do often win against bacterial contamination. It's quite frequent that your mycelium will colonize a bacterially contaminated jar. This is why the sour cream smell doesn't necessitate a dead jar, but it does signify contamination.
Often times the bacteria will win, or greatly stall the mycelium, create patches of toxic metabolites it cannot consume, or kill it off entirely. It all depends how clean your MS solution is, and how well you sterilized your BRF.

yes, the jars were steamed. sigh, perhaps it's time for a pressure cooker...
do you think I should just start over then? or maybe there's a slight hope that the myc will kick up again?
