This store bought cow shi* Is surprising me
    #19085964 - 11/04/13 03:45 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

I mixed 1 part store bought cow dung 2 parts Walmart soilless organic mix and some perlite to my liking and these mushrooms are look  like they have bark coating. I'm starting to become addicted to growing mushrooms anyone else had this problem ? What next in the addiction sea of brown method. Or would it be called sea of tubs:mushroom2:

That's generally not the case here.  While some members can be harsh, the criticisms they voice are always well-intended and full of information.  We downrate dickheads here in cultivation.

I ate and made tinctures with the first batch so I don't have a side by side picture to compare to show what I mean. But what I mean is the cow poo made a big difference.

Almost sounds to me like it could be a case of verticilium. Peeling stems that turn brown or have lots of brown freckles? Pics of course would confirm but I guess that's not gonna happen. If it is verticilium then you need to carefully remove the infected mushies, stop misting (misting spreads the spores around) and up your FAE. Once it takes over a sub you ain't gonna get rid of it but high FAE IME will allow some of the later flushes to come out more normal.

Yes, cow poo is cheap and easily available at the store. What is the purpose of adding the perlite?  Is it to make the soil less compact?
I am thinking if cow poo is good then how is the chicken manure will be.  I'll have to try that one day.

chicken manure is more of an additive and should be no more then 5%

and your mushroom gods may be dipping into their stash...perlite should not be in your sub you want ssomething thatretains  moisture and soil is useless:shrug:
furthermre storebought manure is composted

Wtf dude?  Everyone here usually is ecstatic to post pics of their first grow.  I know I was.  Most people on here are pretty damn supportive and will give you invaluable pointers / advice to improve your grow.

That was my experience anyway.

As far as the 'bark' I think I know what your talking about.  Is it the texture of the stem that you're referring to?  Like it's kinda peeling / layered like the bark of some kinda palm tree?  If so that's totally normal.

Something like this?

This was from my first grow.  I thought the texture on the bottom of the stem looked kinda like tree bark.
