Couple Q's about Lophs

OK so I have not had much luck with growing any cacti throughout the years. I feel like I am cursed by the cactus gods or something!!! Whether it was my cat, or neglect due to living a bad lifestyle, all my attempts have been failures. My cat has killed hundreds of pups and even killed some of my big San Pedro adults!!! So I want to get a mini greenhouse or something safe for this new attempt. This is the bulb I am working with... <snip> Indoor-Sunshine-Trio-25-watt-Bulbs
So here are my Q's... how resiliant are Loph pups? If I do not have enough light or heat, will they die fairly easily? If they are in a mini greenhouse, should I air it out, and how often? For soil, I have miracle grow cactus soil, and I am adding more perlite and sand to the mix, is this good enough? I cant think of any more specific questions, but Im sure more will come!
Thanks, Dan

I suggest getting a hydroponic grow tent, <snip> are your best bets. I currently have a 6.5x6.5 with a 600w hps and a 6500k t5. It all depends on how much space you need vs how much space you have vs money. I would also buy a grow light but I wonder what other people have to say.

Humidity may be an issue for large plants with lots of pups. But you could get away with pup grafts under a few fl tubes in a Rubbermaid. Also with that soil I'd run to the local pet shop and check out what they have for fine aquarium gravel to add to it. Maybe I don't recommend it but I'm using it mixed into my mix now. I use something like this Not sure if what I bought last time was clay or the stuff in the link. Right now its experimental, though things seems fine with my plants.
I hear ya with the cat. First year with her here and I been on full alert. She has gotten into the space a couple times and bumped my grafts but luckily they healed well before taking them out of the Rubbermaid. I fear her knocking the seedlings.
But if using a mini I'd keep it aired out when the soils damp. I'd go like almost all perelite for substrate even. Really airy that drys out fast. I'm just kinda rambling I'm no expert.
The substrate I linked to was wrong, I updated the link with the stuff I used. Its mineral rich expanded clay. Not great for volume but it works for mixing up a quick batch.

I've experimented a bit with using pure perlite as a cactus substrate, but it gets annoying really fast. Basically it's so lightweight that it floats away when you're watering.
I'm not totally sure what the OP means by "pups." Usually the term is taken to mean the same thing as "offsets" (i.e. new heads that form on a larger plant) but I get the sense that the OP may be using it to refer to seedlings.
For seedlings I like small clear rubbermaid-style shoebox type containers that they have at the local home renovation store in the storage section. They cost about $1 each and come with lids. I drill holes in the bottom of one for drainage, and set that in another one with no holes. The drainage holes allow bottom watering, which means that the soil surface is not disturbed much while watering.
