Air Exchange Question

I am using A BRF Tek in 1/2 pint jars. Its been 11 days and i see about 20% colonization on each side of half the jars. When i inoculated i punched 2 holes in the lids then i covered them up with tape. My question is should i put some type of filter disk on the holes to allow more air exchange? Will this help the growth? I put a 1/2 inch dry layer of verm before sealing. Also what is the benefit of flipping the jars upside down?

The dry vermiculite is the filter in the pf-tek and putting a filter disk over the holes will only serve to restrict GE. You want FAE when you're ready to introduce fruiting conditions.

If it's micropore tape that's already a filter. You don't need anything over the holes. I don't even use micropore tape if I do PF. Just let the verm barrier do it's job. I leave the holes open and don't touch the jars all the time.

Last resort if the bottoms of your jars wont colonize. Don't ever do this it's more bad than good and is only a last resort if your cakes don't work.

My jars were about 20% five days ago and i took the foil off in order to let some GE occur. Since then they have grown DRAMATICALLY and i should be at 100% colonization within a few days. This was my first grow, so learning that such a small step could increase my colonization time was really cool. Hope this helps man goodluck with your grow

Someone may correct me if im wrong but i dont think removing the entire lid will do much. Make sure theres nothing over the holes and just let the jars sit somewhere. Just forget about them, like they never even existed
