Introduction and question regarding extensive cultivation experiment
    #19084952 - 11/04/13 11:10 AM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Howdy,

I've never had any experience with magic mushrooms in any capacity or mushroom cultivation generally. However, a while back I got curious and undertook an experiment. After extensive reading on this site and a few others, spore samples of P. Cubensis, Pan Cam and Pan Cyan were obtained in syringe form from two sources (both sponsors) along with a print of Pan Cyan. These were were placed on agar and in jars and the results spawned to a variety of grain and grain/manure combinations. These permutations have been kept at room temperature (18-21 C) or in an incubator (25-28 C). In turn, these have been spawned to a variety of substrate and casing combinations (also split into two temperature groups). Throughout this entire experiment, records have been kept as to temperatures, humidities and techniques, although pictures are notably sparse.

I guess my curiosity got the better of me, as I never intended to have it all get quite so extensive. Reading the various fora, it quickly became evident that there's a lot of chaff mixed in with the wheat. I focused on the voices of Trusted Cultivators with especial attention given to Mr. Rabbit, but that still left a lot of fuzziness. To help clear some of it up (in my mind, at least), I embarked on this journey, helped along by a strong desire to see if I could pull it off.

My question is whether or not the data set resulting from my flinging shit at the wall and seeing what sticks is of wider interest, and, if so, where would be the most appropriate forum? The most advanced portions are cased and awaiting pinning, while some bits are still in grain jars and a few remain at the LC stage.  The spreadsheet so far contains 79 records with 38 fields plus additional notes. Summarize? Post the whole shebang as a PDF? Here or Advanced Mycology (seems a stretch) or The Ethnobotanical Garden? It is definitely a work in progress, but anybody have thoughts they'd like to share?

Here's a photo of the most advanced tray. It's Pan Cyan on horse manure/vermiculite from two ryegrass jars inoculated with two agar recipes:

Boy, am I glad I asked since I was leaning toward either the Political Discussion or DIY/Home Improvement groups. Thank you for the reply and valuable tip!

Why not just post up a bit of a grow log with some ideas about what worked best for you? And pics are always useful

Post it here http://www.shroomery.org/forums/postlist.php/Board/135 to avoid confusion

Thanks, Rubestoad and Skinty, that's what I was looking for. I missed the 'journal' option and that seems like a great choice. A serialization of the progress and observations made is probably also in order. I was also curious about the general attention span for this sort of thing- there's a lot to wade through.

Yeh the journal is a good option. Although people will get all high and mighty when people go "off tek" it is also interesting especially when trying different approaches are compared side by side. Good luck
