Are these Psilocybe cyanescens?
    #19084818 - 11/04/13 10:23 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Hi guys,

Stumbled across these little fellas today and I'm pretty sure they are P.cyanescens. Can anyone confirm this?

Hopefully the pictures will give enough information but they were found on woodchip amongst conifers, the older specimens were a lot more washed out looking, similar colour to woodchip.

If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great!

Cheers

They do look psilocyble. Not sure about cyan though, stem looks really beefy.

I'm no TI though.

Psilocybe allenii instantly came to mind when I saw them.
Again I'm no T.I.

They are Psilocybe cyanescens due to the dark caramel shade of the cap and the way the caps are getting wavy even though the mushroom is not mature.

OP, for future reference you could have let these grow another week and they would have much more total psilocybin, and would have dropped some spores as well.

Cool thanks for the info, I took a few to ID but there are a lot more coming up at the site which I will indeed leave for a week or so.

Do you know if they are still good enough to eat/ effective once they have faded to the yellow/ straw colour? Or are they better fresh ie still brown?

Cheers!

What's the average growth time from pin-mature?

Yes, it is best to pick them when they are as mature as possible.  But not yet rotten.
