that's the beauty of the straw log.  even though I hate being covered in straw, it's less energy intensive with lime bath.  You don't need an autoclave you can drive a car into, to do thousands of pounds of sub with straw.  That's why we do 50/50 straw log and sawdust bag production.

I believe i get close to 90% BE with pasteurized sawdust (king oyster). I dont supplement my blocks until i add grain spawn at a quart per 3 lb block.

I suppose that is where the energy intensity comes in, sterilizing extra grains; but i think you can fit more quart jars in an autoclave than you can sawdust bags. pasteurizing sawdust is a snap with steam or with lime.

With our shiitake outdoors we can get 6-7 flushes before the blocks litereally fall apart. but you have spray them down with a hose or something along those lines. Keep the trich from forming too much. Those things are ridiculous at longevity.

Your getting 2.5+ lbs of kings per block with lipas tek???  And no, jars take up much more space than bags.  I can fit more than twice as much in a sterilizer using bags.
