Digestibility (or lack thereof) doesn't sufficiently explain why you would vomit though. It just means it would pass through intact into your feces, much like how corn moves through your digestive system and is left over intact in your poop.
Found a better abstract for you. I'm not exactly sure what the conclusion means though, I'm not trained to analyze the technical jargon of medical journals: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1320404

Humans are unable to digest cellulose because the appropriate enzymes to breakdown the beta acetal linkages are lacking. Undigestible cellulose is the fiber which aids in the smooth working of the intestinal tract.

The argument is the phytochemicals that are tied up in that cellulose. This came up, grape skins were used as an example. And another person said that the skin of apples is the healthiest part of apples. My argument is that a person gets very little of what's in those skins, due to what you described. Thank you for that information by the way.

The bottom line is, if you get nauseous from eating something you probably shouldn't eat it. Most of us don't get nauseous from apple skins though.
Just listen to what your body is telling you.

I thought your argument was that apple skins make you sick?
I wanted to ask btw, did you consume anything else when you ate these apple skins? Because people often associate food-borne illness with the last food that they ate. But depending on what you ate that day and how packed your digestive system is, it could have been food from a previous meal before that.
kneesocks, what percentage of the skin would you estimate is digestible? Because I know with corn, it's only the outer hull that passes through you.

It's been a long time since I've eaten an apple with the skin, but I can tell you that I would experience the nausea shortly after eating it and I can also say that I never get food poisoning and I rarely, rarely get nauseous from food. And I've been on a pretty minimalist diet for years now, so I wouldn't be surprised if I had little to nothing in my stomach during some of these instances of nausea. Lastly, I certainly did not get nauseous every time I ate an apple with its skin on it. Oh and the wax that apples are coated with could be the culprit as well.

It's probably the pesticides and wax on the skin... not the skin itself.

youre all morons. The skin of any fruit is going to have all the toxins and all of the vitamins. Yes apples have cyanide, fish have mercury, and vegetables absorb hella pesticides.
I have been somewhat of an alcohol abuser for two years, that has done more damage than cyanide, mercury, and growth hormones. I seem to be fine. Now stop being cunts and eat your goddamn food.
Especially you, SMOKERS
Theres cyanide in those, probably less healthy than apples.

Are people eating the seeds anyways? It's not an issue if you don't eat the seeds. Plus, cyanide is one of those toxins that doesn't really have long term/chronic effects. Lots of subacute doses of cyanide won't have much effect on your general health.

The cyanide in apples are in the seeds, and mercury is contained within the fat of usually larger predatory fish.

Fibrous indigestable material is what carries the nutrients on their journey from delicious food to poop. I say if you ate no plant fiber you'd be more likely to have bowel issues.
When I was a kid my mom would peel apples in bunches with a crank-peeler and I'd just sit there eating strand after strand of appleskin by the handful.
