This sounds ok, albeit 3 inches of substrate sounds even better.

Both of those posts are extremely old, I was just reading recently about a pan cycan monotub with a 4" sub depth and it produced fruits. Maybe more info has come to light since those two posts were made.

Search posts by Blue Helix .. he knows his pan stuff.
1 1/2" bulk substrate thickness is commonly seen here.

From my research on pans, thinner substrates perform better.
Max substrate depth of about 2 inches.
Casing layers are also thin, 1/4"-1/2".
The Comprehensive Panaeolus Cultivation Notes should help tremendously.

IME pans generate a lot of heat during colonization and spawn run. The thicker the sub the more heat. I always found that thick subs would either stall out or contam, just my limited experience.
