"Right now this cigarette feels so good I don't even care if I end up getting cancer."
    #19082821 - 11/03/13 09:42 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Do you guys ever get that feeling too? :strokebeard:

I am a big worry wart so I find myself thinking about my death quite often while enjoying a cigarette.

But I am only nineteen and a good cigarette feels so pleasant while on amphetamines, benzos, while tripping or while drunk.
Sometime I don't enjoy my :cig: but there are times when I am completely :aweoverdose: and chain smoking.

Do you think your smoking will cause you severe health problems and an earlier death?
Do you care or do you embrace it?:smoking:

Being realistic, I imagine I will smoke for a few more years while sowing my wild oats.
I see myself quitting by 22-30 years old.

Don't worry guys, I'll quit tomorrow. I promise!

By then think of how much damage you'll have caused? Cigs just aren't worth it.

I think as long as you don't become like a pack a day smoker or anything, you aren't really fucking yourself up TOO MUCH at that age. Just don't let it get away from ya and always keep it in your mind you wanna quit. Trust me the years go quick once you start.

Personally, I don't give a fuck like almost every other smoker. I like it too much to quit right now. I honestly do believe I'll quit but... not yet :hehehe:

Also if you're gonna quit just quit silently don't talk about it all the time as A) It hurts your ability to quit and B) You become "that" smoker, the smoker who always bitches about their failed attempts at quitting. No one cares, congratulations even the smokers hate you now.

You should quit before 25 if you want your lungs to heal back to 100% over the following 20 years, iirc. If you smoke beyond that I read that the damaged lung tissue combined with natural aging makes it too difficult for your body to regenerate healthy cells in large portions of the lungs.

I kicked the habit and have been unable to enjoy them since, but I do remember that feel. Cigarettes while tripping were my favorite, I once chain smoked two full packs in one trip, had a big psychedelic pyramid of ash next to my chair.

It's not just about the buzz.. it's about the schedule, the smoke, the burn, the sizzle, the taste, the smell, the break, the relaxation, and oh yeah the buzz too . It's hard to quit for a reason. Wish I never started.

I just spent most of my weekend at the hospital because my grandpa (72) got his stomach and part of his esophagus removed, he's smoked since he was like 16 or something and just got diagnosed with stomach cancer three weeks ago, my grandma has only one lung from lung cancer she was a smoker too, so yeah I'd say smoking cigarettes would shave some time off your life. Just like other things like your diet, activity level, stress, ect.

LOL, yeah buddy thats realistic for sure

By smoking you're falling victim to a state conspiracy implemented to have you sick and dying by the age when the state is required to pay your insurance, sickness benefits, pension etc.

Don't be a chump. Quit while you're ahead.

The way I see it, Somethings gonna kill ya, Why not let it be something you love?

There are two kinds of people in this world, those who consume, and those who don't.

CONSUME

I don't know where I was going with this post, but it made me need a cigarette.

Anyways, find what you love, and let it kill you. Some dead guy said that.

IMO quit altogether, its a dumbass drug anyway (I say that cause you're sponsoring your government through smoking).

LMAO you welcome a disease that the world spends billions trying to eradicate or at least medicate with a commercial incentive.

You chumps are not only feeding the government conspiracy, you're also feeding big pharma with your cancer bullshit.

I'd suggest if any of you do get cancer use a bullet instead of a pill. No need to drag your family in irreversible financial debt while simultaneously feeding the evil drug corporations and your beloved government.

Also I think cigs smell like a greasy butthole.

You seriously believe that? :burke:

If anything that notion has been designed to lure people away from thinking about the global conspiracy regarding smoking. I mean after all its obvious they're pushing something bad for you, at least they can try to pretend to "protect" you.

Next time I see a smoker I'm gonna stab him in the eye with a screwdriver, fucking government supporters.

Bitches are not a priority as long as I continue to have sex at least twice a day which automatically makes the idea of looking cool pretty much pointless.

Looking cool is for people with insecurities, the sexually frustrated and :scumbagsteve:

Nah, see you're wrong, it's my choice. Not the governments. Not the advertisements. I choose to pick up a cigarette. They are not "pushing" anything on me, especially in this day and age where smoking is socially taboo and the government from what I understand has more to gain by getting folks off cigarettes than on them. Maybe 50 years ago but sounds a little :tinfoil: for me.

Im with you on that its bad. I spend like 80$ a week on cigs because theyre around 10-12$ a pack where I live. Ive been smoking for about 2 years and im only 18 :frown: Im planning making the effort to quit soon but every time I try all I think about is having a smoke. Sometimes its not even like I need the buzz its just that im used to having a cig with coffee, after meals, before and after classes, at the bus stop, and before I go to bed. I feel weird going on with those activities without a smoke

Make sure you drink a lot of water.

One of the most insidious things that cigarettes do is trick the body's thirst reflex. Instead of reaching for water, smokers reach for a cigarette.

That might be why the cig tastes so good... because you're extremely dehydrated, and your body thinks that the cigarette is like a tall glass of water.

holy fuck, i don't spend 80 a week on anything. unless you count rent.

i thought spending $25 on cigs a week was bad, you should consider switching to e-cigs (mail orders). you will be much richer. a decent e-cig doesn't even cost 25 and it takes costs about 2 bucks a week to maintain at most (liquid and coil/wick replacing)

also the hydrating thing is bullshit, i am always thirsty and drink water after i smoked a cigarette.

Not explicitly that feeling, but I do think that I am going through that "I'm young who cares" phase, to some extent. Physically, according to blood tests and doctors, I'm a very healthy person, so I'm just kinda like...meh, why not just keep eating healthy, exercising, and listening to my body .

1 year-1 1/2 years ago I smoked marlboro reds(100's) quite heavily. I was walking everywhere and often wanted to smoke while doing that, had a really cool outdoor spot at my place to chill and smoke when I was home, or if I wasn't walking I was driving and stuck in heavy traffic for a minimum of thirty minutes on my commute, each way - - it was more having something to preoccupy myself with than anything. I quit mainly because it was expensive, hindered my fitness, and my lung capacity really started getting affected enough to bother me(especially as a scuba diver, I went through air much quicker), and it just made me feel kinda crappy overall.....never because I was really all that concerned about cancer. Ever.

Now I tend to go many weeks without a cigarette and have a a few a month, every other month or so though I seem to break down, buy a pack and chainsmoke through it and then I'm done for another month. It's odd. But better than consistently smoking, I guess. Either way, still not concerned about lung cancer(well...maybe if I keep breathing in the amount of paint fumes I have been while working), that didn't stop me from picking up the habit, it didn't provoke me into quitting.

This thread is full of :doublefacepalm: . It's not the government that wants you to smoke tobacco, its tobacco companies. Saying the government is the one trying to make you smoke so you die is foolish. Tobacco is popular because it makes people feel good. Saying people only smoke because they were tricked by a massive government conspiracy is like saying people do heroin so that harm reduction organizations will get more business.
Also the government doesn't put anything in tobacco, tobacco companies do. sheesh

Just as many non-smokers get lung and every other type of cancer as smokers
:smirk:
People whining about quitting or wanting to quit is so annoying. Of course you'll probably still want one from time-to-time, you can't unlearn the fact that they are enjoyable with coffee, after a meal, etc.
Same goes with every other drug, especially ones that light up your reward center (opiates and stims).

And don't even get me started on the "truth" (apparently i.e. the incredibly skewered and fabricated) campaign..

Yeah, honestly I'mnot worried about cigs giving me cancer, if I'm going to get cancer, I'm going to get it regardless of what I do.

SMoking helps me from smoking weed when I'm hanging out with friends as well, so for that reason alone I don't see myself quitting. I don't have plans on quitting, but hey maybe someday I will. But I don't have an issue just smoking a cig every once in a while

The only time I smoke heavily is when I'm stressed/anxious or I'm high. Otherwise I smoke 1-2 cigs a day with zero issues.

Granted you don't smoke much but this, "if I'm going to get cancer, I'm going to get it regardless of what I do." is completely wrong. There are indeed chemicals, such as benzene that can and will cause cancer, even if you wouldn't get it otherwise.

I'm not convinced
There's people that smoke multiple packs a day their whole life without getting cancer
And yet there's people that are still relatively young that develop lung cancer.

I firmly believe cancer has more to do with genetics than enviroment

Genetics are a very strong factor, but the environment can be as well.

I tried the e cig thing but since I was able to smoke anywhere, I would literally smoke it all day long which probaly made me more addicted. And I never really knew when to stop because it does burn out and its fun to play with. I hate to say it, but I was a little embarrassed to smoke it in public. Kinda felt like a doushe

I fucken love my ecig/ vape. Save so much goddamn money.
still get to smoke (indoors), get that satisfaction of inhaling and exhaling a vapor.. get nicotine fix in whatever potency you want.. choose from hundreds of flavors.. juice is cheap as shit, I spend like 20 a month.
And it's just water, propylene glycol, nicotine and flavor, no tar or carbon monoxide or unknown carcinogens, so you aren't poisoning yourself
Plus you can get a backup pen vape and use it to puff hash oil in public
:woot: :zoidberg:

its glycerin and nicotine. think about it, water vapor is above 200F degrees. that is such an annoying thing i hear from a lot of dumbass e-cig supporters.

i bicycle and snowboard, and i've smoked during those activities. its although i generally don't smoke an entire stoge unless i'm on a downhill or taking a break. i actually love the nicotine rush in combination with adrenaline, although i can't take long deep drags lol.

i've even smoked while playing soccer, people were like WTF!?

That depends on the temperature of the water vapor, its usually not hot enough to burn by the time it gets to the throat.

Also, I'm pretty sure the main risk of inhaling water vapor is that it can build up. With the amount of vapor in e-cigs, it's virtually impossible.

:lolwut:
either propylene glycol or vegetable glycerin are used as a base for the liquid for viscosity purposes and as a vehicle for the flavor and both are non-toxic and completely safe for consumption.
distilled water is used to cut it, about 2/3 is water so you are in fact inhaling mostly water vapor when you vape, a small amount of PG/VG and flavorings and whatever concentration of nicotine you choose.

if water vapor is below 200 some odd degrees then it will become liquid.

theres no water in the liquids i use, i blend my own so i should know. if you have water vapor coming out of your e-cig then either it is condensing into liquid before it gets in your mouth or its burning you.

Nicotine is one of the most addictive drugs that exist.
Since you say 22-30 I'll bet $50 that you won't quit til at least 30.

yea tobacco is actually more addictive than nicotine. thats how come nicotine products have a tendency to not be an effective substitute to smoking.

OMG it's a graph that means it has to be right.
Some real compelling evidence you have there.

Being realistic, you're playing with fire.
Nicotine is one of the most addictive drugs that exist.
Since you say 22-30 I'll bet $50 that you won't quit til at least 30.

The most addictive substance known to man, according to most science.

But can we beat it? YES WE CAN!

I may go get some refills for my old ecigs tomorrow. That's how I quit 'for good' the first time.

What made me a smoker again? Picking up the ecig for old times' sake.

The last time I had a real bad black out I woke up(at my parents, so it was a safe super suburban neighborhood..not philly, thank fuck) with a scuba diving mask next to my bed. The last thing I remembered was deciding that I should go for a walk around the block, losing an entire pack of cigarettes on said walk, sitting out by the pool and admiring the landscaping. My hair was all curly like it got wet, and my cellphone was by the pool, so I'm just assuming I took a dip .

I have also tried to cook(this was when I was fully asleep, because I have NOOO memory, knowledge, or idea of it whatsoever) by turning the gas on the stove, throwing an entire stick of butter in the saucepan, and leaving it for the whole night. :uhoh:

Scary stuff. I can't bring myself to even take the 1/2 dose in Philly or anywhere I know where I could "escape" because I tend to leave the house on the stuff and try to drive my car or at least walk around, which is bad when you live in "gentrifying" areas in a city like Philly.

picture if from "drugwarfacts.org"

doesn't look like a very nonbiased source lol

seriously nicotine is not nearly as addictive a tobacco, there are other things going than just nicotine addiction with a smoker.  ask any nicotine vaper, vaping nicotine is not nearly as difficult to stop using if needed as smoking.

Lol technically FiletOFish was more carcinogenic than whatever else.

That said, if you don't think we're committing slow-motion suicide with our sexy smoggy smoke, well... keep at it--it's only eugenics if we do it on purpose.

As for me, I would like to be done with this soon and I know I can do it.

honestly no its not. the american cancer society has a clear agenda.

"n the United States, tobacco use is responsible for nearly 1 in 5 deaths"

whose to say that if the people didn't smoke they still wouldn't have died? guess what, tobacco use very common and correlated that those people who use tobacco is nothing more than a correlation not a (known) cause.

i'm not advocating that tobacco is healthy, i'm just saying its very complicated proving that it is the cause of all the deaths people claim.

Notice to SP (subsequent posters): most organizations have an "Agenda" or they wouldn't really have bothered organizing, would they?

My aunt got cancer from my uncle's pipe smoking a while back. It was extremely traumatic for the whole family and our network of family friends.

My uncle quit cold turkey the day they found out what my aunt's problem was.

There are things that we really should take seriously.

Am I going to quit, again? Yes. Will I still have a cig when I'm drunk and barhopping? I'm sure but next time I wake up next to a pack of Marlboro Reds, I'm going to toss them.

Props to pwnasaurus. :awesomenod:

I mean it's not like I'd ever advocate smoking cigarettes, I used to be very against them and didn't start smoking until about a year ago. It's a horrible, disgusting habit and it's foolish to even start.

It's just annoying when people make claims they can't back  up.

Of course there is no obvious link between tobacco and breast cancer... how about you find a study talking about the correlation between tobacco and lung cancer, instead.

I know you haven't approved of any sources of data shown yet, but maybe you'll trust wikipedia.

Health effects of tobacco

"Tobacco is the single greatest cause of preventable death globally.[3] Tobacco use leads most commonly to diseases affecting the heart, liver and lungs, with smoking being a major risk factor for heart attacks, strokes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (including emphysema and chronic bronchitis), and cancer (particularly lung cancer, cancers of the larynx and mouth, and pancreatic cancer). It also causes peripheral vascular disease and hypertension. The effects depend on the number of years that a person smokes and on how much the person smokes. Starting smoking earlier in life and smoking cigarettes higher in tar increases the risk of these diseases. Also, environmental tobacco smoke, or secondhand smoke, has been shown to cause adverse health effects in people of all ages.

[Cigarette] Smoke contains several carcinogenic pyrolytic products that bind to DNA and cause many genetic mutations. There are 45 known or suspected chemical carcinogens in cigarette smoke."

Definition of carcinogen: a substance capable of causing cancer in living tissue.

Cigarette companies even put WARNINGS on their labeling stating that , yet people must think they're joking.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tobacco_packaging_warning_messages#United_States_of_America

- Caution: Cigarette Smoking May be Hazardous to Your Health (1966–1970)
- Warning: The Surgeon General Has Determined that Cigarette Smoking is Dangerous to Your Health (1970–1985)
- SURGEON GENERAL'S WARNING: Smoking Causes Lung Cancer, Heart Disease, Emphysema, And May Complicate Pregnancy. (1985–)
- SURGEON GENERAL'S WARNING: Quitting Smoking Now Greatly Reduces Serious Risks to Your Health. (1985–)
- SURGEON GENERAL'S WARNING: Smoking By Pregnant Women May Result in Fetal Injury, Premature Birth, And Low Birth Weight. (1985–)
- SURGEON GENERAL'S WARNING: Cigarette Smoke Contains Carbon Monoxide. (1985–)

nicotine is extremely dangerous in a pure concentration a few drops on your skin can kill a heavy smoker. one drop can kill a child or elderly...

also if you pointing out other things are unhealthy in tobacco other than nicotine, why can't you understand that nicotine (not tobacco) is not very addictive??

its is very clear that you are not very knowledgeable on nicotine, a subject you appear to have so much interest in. such a shame.

for cancer
http://jnci.oxfordjournals.org/content/91/14/1194.full
There I'm reading these ones
I'm a quarter of the way through this one (its really long) and I found this interesting
Quote:

Fewer than 20% of smokers will get lung cancer (38). Susceptibility will depend in part on the balance between carcinogen metabolic activation and detoxification in the smokers. This is an important area requiring intense further study.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2127653/pdf/9365295.pdf
I only read the abstract on this one

it depends on the tobacco. its no different from pre-rolled. all depends on the tobacco. you can buy american spirits pre-rolled or loose leaf, both are the same. i'm sure bugler isn't any different form any common cigarrette tobacco.

its is very clear that you are not very knowledgeable on nicotine, a subject you appear to have so much interest in. such a shame.

i'm not talking about a big crystal. i'm talking about drops. nicotine is considered a poison, the lethal dose is not much different from the threshold. if you consumed 20 cigarettes worth of nicotine at once you could die without question.

take 20 hits of LSD, and see what happens. i can tell you its intense from my own experience but not physically dangerous.

i'll let other people judge who is more knowledgeable on this, me or you.

If someone can't recognize nicotine as a poison then they don't know wtf they're talking about.
Isn't nicotine used as a pesticide even? But it kills bugs so that's good right?

Take a bottle of aspirin and you'll die too.

Having done every almost every drug known to man, I think sugar is probably the most addictive drug. Nicotine is more addictive than heroin though, IME.

You experience threshold before one cigarette, try taking twenty times your threshold in drugs where you can actually od on.I have always hated the argument, which is done for many things, that if something in a pure form is potent enough to be dangerous then the substance itself is to. It is easily possible to lethally overdose on many things, and just because that dose fits in a drop, does not make the substance particularly dangerous at a sane dosage.

No. You will. There's a reason it says don't exceed 6 pills in 24 hours or whatever on the bottle. Acetaminophen will cause acute liver failure at high doses.

My point was just because a whole lot of one substance can kill you, doesn't mean a normal dose is necessarily very harmful.

Aspiring is acetylsalicylic acid, not acetaminophen.

Have fun livin' in your fantasy-land where nicotine/tobacco isn't bad for you.

Now where did I say that? Please point this out to me.

Besides, nicotine itself is not that bad for you, addictive yes, dangerous no. Lots of other stuff in tobacco smoke

nicotine is extremely dangerous in a pure concentration a few drops on your skin can kill a heavy smoker. one drop can kill a child or elderly...

also if you pointing out other things are unhealthy in tobacco other than nicotine, why can't you understand that nicotine (not tobacco) is not very addictive??

its is very clear that you are not very knowledgeable on nicotine, a subject you appear to have so much interest in. such a shame.

And you can overdose as I once did on nicotine gum 4mg and a pyramid menthol.

Nicotine itself is a carcinogen AFIAK... the "smoking" RIO is problematic in that it can damage the parts of your cells' DNA that governs apoptosis-> tuuuumors, plus it ages you prematurely.

i never said a normal dose was harmful. quite the contrary actually, i'm actually saying its relatively safe and non addictive in comparison to tobacco comparing both in standard doses.

i was just pointing out that saying its not dangerous is false. aspirin can kill you too with a relatively low doses, i would not say aspirin is not dangerous either.

even if you don't you'll be in terrible condition, but you probably will. That is assuming were talking about a bottle and not one of those little tube with like 5 pills in it. Clinical evaluation shows it to be life threatening at doses of 500 mg.
But yes being stupid and radically overdosing on drugs is bad and can turn most drugs poisonous, although it does take effort to take twenty times a common dose.
here is one good case
Smoking excessive amounts of tobacco has also led to poisoning; a case was reported where two brothers smoked 17 and 18 pipes of tobacco in succession and were both fatally poisoned
and yet
The probable lethal dose of nicotine has been reported as between 40 and 60 milligrams (the total amount in about 2 cigarettes if all of the nicotine was absorbed) in adults and about 1 mg/kg in children (less than 1 cigarette)

The simple and best solution assuming one will ingest any nicotine is to not radically overdose on it

That is an interesting thing. I enjoy a nice cigarette every now and then, they are especially pleasant when other substances are involved. Certain drugs mixed with tobacco is like peanut butter and jelly. Cookies and milk. But I always found it interesting how intelligent people sometimes smoke cigarettes knowing that is killing them. I watched my grandmother die from smoking for 60 years and it is not a pleasant thing. Not being able to breathe is scary as fuck.
But sometimes it's just like fuck it, you know?

Here is a quote I enjoy by one of my favorite people:

“I burned the candle at both ends and it gave a lovely light” - Christopher Hitchens

“I have lived on the lip of insanity, wanting to know reasons, knocking on a door. It opens.
I've been knocking from the inside.” - Rumi

“The nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our apple pies were made in the interiors of collapsing stars. We are made of starstuff.” - Carl Sagan

I settled for these instead >

May not be as 'cool' as the E-cig, no flashing lights or vapour trail, but...

The beauty of these is, if your local health center is taking part in the governments 'smoking cessation program' that you can get them on the NHS for the price of a prescription, or, free if you're on benefits. One box of the 42 cartridge (10mg) last me ~ three months.

Haven't smoked since 20/6 last year, after best part of 40 years of heavy smoking.

I wonder if they could use a similar technique to impregnate the cartridges with THC instead of nicotine. :strokebeard:

There were a couple reasons i never started. Nearly everyone i know who smokes regrets it and constantly tells me about how they're going to stop and they haven't smoked in 3 days and it's the same damn story every week. Second of all, it seems like a worthless drug. 2 minute buzz, too many health effects, expensive, addicting, etc. I can definitely see the appeal of the act of smoking itself and i feel that that draw would be wayyyyy too strong for my own good. Then most importantly, my entire moms side of the family are smokers and nearly all of them have died by the age of 40-50. It's not just cancer you have to worry about, they all died from either emphysema or heart disease. Granted i may be genetically predisposed to heart disease, but it still speaks volumes about the impact of long term smoking. As far as i can tell, those who do not get affected by smoking long term are the minority

Im all for doing drugs, and certainly not a health nut... But the idea of smoking cigs just doesn't sit right with me. It's like eating arsenic because you enjoy the taste. Such a shitty benefit/risk ratio. That being said, it would be nice to find a tasty and relatively healthy smoke blend that didn't completely obliterate me

Using tobacco is by far the most dangerous and lethal mental illness in the world, and probably the most prevalent. Smoking cigarettes is undoubtedly and undeniably a mental illness.

Just depends how you define mental illness. Had our culture evolved differently, being drawn to sticking highly toxic materials in your lungs on a regular basis would very well be considered a mental illness akin to those loonies who are addicted to eating laundry detergent or talking through puppets

Actually, pretty sure addiction already is a mental illness. Of course i still think the label is too simplistic to just slap on things

i've said for like 10 years it would be a good comedy movie about what would happen if they made cigs illegal suddenly overnight.

Be all like "yo baby you want to go back to my house and smoke some cigs?"

newports would be like 100$ a pack

remember the mcdonalds prostitute?

not saying sugar whores would be as prevalent as crack whores, but people will be whores for the weirdest reasons

i stopped smoking weed altogether, ive cut drinking down to a couple times a month, both things i used everyday a few years ago, i can walk right by the stuff without temptation now, a chocolate bar or piece of cake sitting on the table would tempt me

so i can totaly see sugar being as addictive as drugs

I'd rather smoke joints than cigarettes.    Even if the weed didn't get me high at least weed is healthier and tastes good.

That's scary.

In terms of GOOD NEWS though... while cigs cut off around 7 years off your life expectancy if you're a life smoker, even if you quit at age 40 after decades of smoking, you'll get almost 5 years of it back statistically.

Your risk of heart disease is that of a never-smoker's after just 12 months of abstaining.

After 10-15 years, your risk of lung cancer is that of a non-smokers.

Inflammation in airways almost necessarily goes down, your lung capacity, ability to exercise, and efficiency in breathing return too for the most part. "Permanent" lung damage seems to be largely the domain of COPD or chronic bronchitis for those who developed it while smoking.

Hard to feel optimistic when you're coughing up ash and your body is screaming "MOAR MOAR MOAR :crankey:!" though

I think most of them would be women and children, so the government we be all like "crack down on sugar, to save the women and children" Then they would end up putting them in jail and making it difficult if not sometimes impossible to find a legitimate job and be stuck back in a life of prison, prostitution, drug dealing and violence. Then the government would be all "we helped them so much" :highfive:
and all this could just be avoided with sugar legalization 2014  :vibin:

Fuck 2 packs on a stressful day!? That's like 5 days a week for me. In the long run cigs just make you feel worse, I bet the only time you can be happy and relaxed is when you are smoking and it makes me sad.

The I don't want to live long excuse is worse than YOLO. 8 times out of 10 you wont feel like giving up on life if/when you wind up with cancer or a hole in your neck; which will guarantee you a much shorter life then you hope for, or 10+ years of a miserable life (a lot worse than 1 year in jail MK ).

I know I'm stating the obvious, but really your stressful days will be a lot less stressful without a nicotine habit and you can be soooo much happier. Life is tough, but nicotine is one of the worst crutches out there.

Jesus loves you  ...but seriously

I read those statistics before but it's such a load of bull shit. Sure it can be true in some cases, but #1 everyone's body is different, #2 tobacco intake varies so fucking much individually. If you've smoked for a long time you are guaranteed permanent damage, and if you keep up with the habit you are making it worse. Your health will most definitely be worse off if you decide to quit when your 30 instead of 20, and no you wont feel like your 20 again even after being clean for the next 10 years of your life...

Sure this little bit of science is great motivation for people trying to quit, but man it does a good job at fucking procrastinators in the ass.

Well of course you won't feel like you're 20 after another 10 years - you'll be 40!

There's a reason they're called statistics.  Of course everyone is different.  Statistics are predictions based on a large number of data points.  It's not making any claims about any individual, just giving you, well, statistics.

That being said, smoking is fucking stupid.

Haha yeah.. I meant to say you wont feel like the 40 year old who quit smoking at 20 compared to the one who quit at 30.

Also the little edit I made in the post is the reason that statistic pisses me off... (edit) "Sure this little bit of science is great motivation for people trying to quit, but man it does a good job at fucking procrastinators in the ass."

lol... that's because you only bought 2 packs.
Addiction creeps up on a cig user.
They think they are in control, but over time they lose control, involuntarily.

2 packs? is that a joke?

It took me hundreds of packs to get "addicted", although I still don't really feel addicted, it's more of just a compulsive hobby that I hate.

Ya, it's hard for addicts to view their addiction from a 3rd person perspective, though.  They get caught up in the addiction and don't realize it.  Or they realize it but just don't care.

i honestly think this is the first post i read of your that made me shake my head. usually i think your one of the best posters.

yes i do get that feeling depending if i get just the right combo of self medication and its a great feeling.

i have excepted that i will most likely smoke for a very long time and if i do quit it will be extreamley hard.

if you really want to quit when your in your young twentys then QUIT NOW!

trust me it will be much harder when you get older.

no there not good for you but they always give a small amount of pleasure. after you adicted like me the pleasure is only satisfying the erge to smoke.

if you plan to quit in the future the do it now! or else it will be nearly impossible.

or except you will most likely smoke for all or most of your life and probably take several years off your life if you die of old age. (from lung problems.)

I agree, but, lets call it how it is. The "small amount of pleasure" we derive from smoking is due to the almost instant relief from the stress and anxiety caused solely by the withdrawal symptoms of an addictive drug.

How addictive nicotine is can be summed up by the extent to which people will go to, to avoid even the chance, of having to go without their fix.
I once cycled through a cold, blustery and rain threatening night to the local petrol station, a mile away :nonono: just because I was 'getting low' on tobacco, just the thought of which, made me feel 'twitchy'.
Look to the people huddled in draughty doorways sucking up their last fix before they enter a non smoking zone, or, who would rather miss part of a film they've paid good money for, rather than sit through it 'gasping for a fag' if you'll excuse an English-ism.

Not only will smoking "take several years off your life if you die of old age" it will make the preceding years that much more unhealthy.
I can't remember the last time I ran, even a hundred yards, to catch a bus for instance, without being left breathless. Nowadays, I would rather let the bus go by and deal with whatever the weather had to throw at me, than embarrass myself in a desperate, but most, likely forlorn attempt to catch it.

Though I have not smoked in over a year and a half , I am still addicted to the nicotine< but use these instead.

So true. I probably went through 10 or 20 sporadic packs before I became "a smoker".

TBH what got me started was going to rehab lol. That's all people do there... talk about how good they feel/how healthy they're going to be... and smoke.
