Irish Forest Finds
    #19082324 - 11/03/13 08:02 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

All of these were found in an Irish Forrest yesterday.

#1
Galerina marginata?

Growing in pine needles.

#2
Russula?

#3

Edit - wrong pic

#4

#5

#6
Helvella Crispa?

Sorry, I struggled to get a good shot of this. It's slightly more grey than in the photo. What about the edibility of this species? I've found conflicting information.

#7
Jack-o'-lantern?

I found this under a Giant Redwood but there were other trees growing around. These pics look yellow on my screen, but trust me they're orange.

Here's a better shot of that last one.

Maybe it's a false chanterelle?

Yeah, your #7 looks to me like it might be false chanterelle, i.e., Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca ...

Yeah, at least now I know what to look for in real chanterelles; real ones have ribs rather than gills, right?

Any thoughts on the others?

Your suspected Galerina doesn't look like a Galerina to me.  The lamellae seem too white and close for such a mature fruit.  (Then again, I don't really know what I'm talking about :smirk:)  I'm interested to learn what it is...

I don't know enough yet to comment on the rest.  Nice post.

#4 Ganoderma maybe? These ones were really small. Not worth collecting anyhow.

Easy Duggstar. I should think Gymnopus peronatus, Russula, compare Phaeogalera medullosa, Stereum sp., Clavulina cf. coralloides, probably Helvella crispa like you say, Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca.
