Casing or Caking?

First time grower here. Was actually given this cake as a gift. However it is ready to go just waiting for a suitable environment to fruit it in. After researching I am under the impression that if I soak the cake for 10 hours then crumble it and distribute it evenly in a tupperwear container followed by a layer of vermiculite that the fruit will be much more plentiful. As opposed to just leaving it in cake form more mycelium is exposed to fruit. Your thoughts on this? Read a pretty thorough casing tek and it seemed the way to go. Also any tips from you guys would me much appreciated. As I would hate to loose my only cake due to some bullheaded first timers mistake. The tek I read said to use lysol liberally when creating the enclosure and getting it all set so as to not let any stray mold contaminate it.

NO! Don't crumble a whole cake just dunk for 24 hours and roll in dry verm and wait a couple hours before misting so the verm sticks

Certain? I have had mixed opinions. Your reasoning? Just curious so I can make the most informed decision. Also if the mycelium has been exposed to sunlight prior to fruiting will that still effect the growth at all?

No reason to brake up a perfectly healthy cake, then it just has to recover and delays your fruiting and you wont get more fruits crumbling it

Okay good to know. Also allegedly these are of the hawaiian variety cubensis. Although i've read there isn't necessarily a hawaiian strain. At any rate what would be the best temperature to fruit these at? I was thinking under my sink in the cabinet in tupperware encased in a larger tupperware container with a little heater turned on every few times during the day to keep a relatively warm temperature. Thinking 90-100 degrees. I had an incubator but some asshat stole it or sold it the other day.

Okay I will follow this advice. Also last question. I read that if the mycelium is exposed to sunlight ( a good bit of it at least) it will cause them to grow on the sides and lessen the yield. Is that only after you've begun fruiting it? I left my cake in the car the other day on the floorboard so it had 4 or 5 hours of indirect sunlight. Probably fine right? Not like I can change it anyway. Any more secrets?

No, side pinning is caused by the microclimate created in the gap left when the sub shrinks and pulls away from the tub. AFAIK cubensis has a predisposition to pin from the sides anyway, so if it starts to pin on the sides it puts a lot of energy into it.Indirect light on a 12/12 cycle is beneficial during colonization. This is only a concern for people fruiting in tubs. Pins from the sides of the cake are normal and are a good thing
