I just don't get it!
One person says "weed is harmless", the next says "but doesn't it kill brain cells?".
Of course, the second person likes to drink once in a while.
How is it that two people can ignorantly bump their heads together like this?
Why do so few people admit that while it's a considerably safe, mellow drug with beneficial medical properties, it does carry a series of risks, mostly minor, some more severe?
It's not "bad for you" and it's not "harmless" either. There is a middle ground of sorts, but it's not the mathematical mean.

Yes, I've oft' had grievance with issues like this.
I wrote about it on amphetamines once:
Quote:
Detached, yet insufferably in the moment- But where is this coming from? This feeling of duality[....] continues to crop up in my daily experiences. Is this purely the influence of my western interpretation of eastern belief/thought, as was related to me through Mr Alan Watts?
No. As this is a phenomenon (the phenomenon being the perception of dichotomies, dualities, thought confined in black and white, "you can't have one without the other", etc.) that occurs very often (or seems to) and from so many different sources. The idea comes back to my mind, reminding me once again of its insistence in being known, not merely as a religious idea or specific outlook or belief, but as a natural tendency and limitation to be found within thought itself. The world is not "yin-yang" in itself, as I have previously believed, but rather, it is in our minds, the only way to make sense out of it. So much simplification is involved. What I find particularly vulgar is when one subscribes to a dichotomy; fully or at least partially aware that the two ostensibly "opposite" sides of whatever reality one is concerned with at the time are in fact both necessary components of the original dichotomy (good vs evil, conscious attention vs habit, love vs hate, etc) but yet still chooses to cheerlead for one side only, or to ignore the necessity, value, or even the reality of the other side which makes the "preferred" side even possible.
Of course, all of this is clearly on a "theoretical" level, which is in fact the real point (or a deeper point beyond the "facts" of duality) at which I'm aiming. Namely that the existence of all forms/sub-forms of duality is a subjective perception and limitation in man, not a thing "true-in-itself", but a simplification, a naievete, a way of categorizing reality, classifying it as a necessary way of understanding it even on the most shallow of levels.
But what of perception? Is not all perception this "shallow, subjective simplification"? What separates duality from any other aspect of human perception?
I always end up saying things are Both. Sometimes people call this a lack of commitment, or a lack of opinion. But no, the world is a chaotic gray, it is not black and white.
