Well Cubes don't need to be cased.
Keep the yields coming by making a pipeline. Substrates can't be refreshed they'll have a lifetime and then they get burred. Get into agar and get a pressure cooker are the two No.1 things for this hobby. You'll want to make sure you have clean cultures and be able to source plenty of inoculate without having to buy 10+$ syringes all the time, This is what agar is for as well as isolating. The PC is a must if you want to do anything other than PF tek. Make a SAB(still air box) and take some prints from your first grow.
The way to good yields is 1) good genetics. You want to have a good fruting isolate to get the very best results. Spore syringes have thousands if not more genetics in a single cake and you'll have a crapshoot for yield. 2) good fruiting conditions. This means FAE RH LIGHTING etc are all dialed in. You need all these things to line up to get the most from the genetics every time.
If you haven't already Watch these
Let's grow mushrooms I highly suggest watching the BRF/PF tek videos and looking into building a cheap and effective SGFC
If you're interested in moving away from the PF tek there's grain/bulk info at the above link and more detailed info below
How frank gets shit done This is franks post with links to his teks. Frank is one of our Trusted Cultivators. If you use the advance search engine you can click a box for trusted cultivators. This will give you replies to the question you had(that's already been asked 100s of times) by people that know their shit. Please do this before posting any question you have
Tips and tricksLot's of good stuff in here.
Preparing grain spawn What to do with that spawn? Coir prep Tek
If you plan on asking about lighting in the future NotAHacker will probably copy and paste this to you so here's it in advance Lighting requirements of mushrooms
Good things to know are there's a box for "trusted cultivators" in the advanced search engine when you click on search posts. This gives you replies by only people with the TC tag.
Good current members to listen to are NotAHacker420 and Frank(from the above links) They're around a lot and their advice is solid.

Three very selective links two of which show casing layers in the best light possible and the last is RR out of the context of RR's advice as a whole to how to treat cubes. Casing layers for new cultivators is only confusing and it gets there attention because people always talk about yields and massive pinsets which isn't quite true of casing layers. Casing is something people IMO should just find out about after being here long enough to look into it themselves. Or be told about once they have a monotub of PE going.

RogerRabbit said: The reason it works with cubes is because they don't even require a casing layer. In fact, on bulk substrates, cubes will fruit as well without a casing if other conditions are met.
I can't think of one single species of mushroom that REQUIRES a casing layer that will fruit on a sterilized one. If you never plan to grow anything but cubes or copes, then sterilize away, or skip the trouble and don't bother with casing.
However, if you look at cubes as an introduction to mushroom growing, then try the techniques out that you'll need later on when you move to much less forgiving species. If you try to fruit azures, agaricus, shaggy manes, stropharia, etc., etc., on a sterilized casing, they will sit there and refuse to pin. The casing will turn green long before the beneficial organisms that aid in pinning can get re-established.
I have several trays in my grow area right now that are well over a month old, and the casing layers were not heat treated. None have shown the slightest signs of trichoderma.
If you read the chapters in stamets books on casing preparation, whether you look in TMC or GGMM written almost 10 years later, you will find no mention of sterilizing or pasteurizing casing material. Stamets writes that the casing is "wetted to field capacity, then applied to the fully colonized substrate".
I work directly with three mushroom farms in my area, supplying them with sterile cultures and lab work. NONE of them pasteurize or sterilize casing material. It only seems to be in the OMC where people recommend this. In the real world, where failure of a tray means lots of lost money, and the chance that the infection can spread to thousands of trays, they don't sterilize their casings.
Remember, cubes are so easy to grow, they practically grow themselves. They don't need a casing layer, so they fruit just fine if one is prepared incorrectly, or not even used at all. However, it's a mistake to develop bad habits that will have to be UN-learned later on.
Another point to take note of is that all three mushroom farms I work with got their start because of the owner's interest in psilocybin mushrooms. It then progressed to edibles and a very good living. They're millionaires now. Don't teach yourselves bad habits. RR
Casings are only necessary for cubes when trying to fruit straight grains that haven't been spawned to bulk. Otherwise I would stay away from it until you get to that point in this hobby and you'll know when.

basicly what were saying is you want 100% rh on the surface of your sub, this can easily be achieved without a casing layer just watch for beads of moisture on the surface of your sub(not pooling) and mist when it's not visible across the surface. and about keeping the yeilds coming i suggest after the first flush you cut back on the misting for a few days(say to twice a day) and let your sub dry up a little, this gives your sub a well earned/needed break. then just dunk/whatever your sub and proceed to your next flush misting/fanning like normal

Don't try to get too big too fast. Do one or two projects and do them WELL rather than half assing a shit ton of different grows. If you are like a lot of us, you will find that this is going to end up being long term hobby (read: obsession) and there is no rush. You have your whole life ahead of you to keep learning and growing mushrooms. Keep it fun. Your patience and care in a few well done projects is going to be it's own reward when you see those first fruits growing.
Don't skimp on sterile procedure.
Keep your house clean, stop living like a fucking slob. Take those cups of week old apple juice and water and half drunk beers off your computer desk and wash them out. Consider your entire apartment / house your 'laboratory' and treat it like one. Not only will you build self esteem by coming home to a clean house every day, women will want to bone you when they see that you're a well kept man.

Seriously though, QFT.
Also try to be patient. At least for me I would check my mushies (at all stages) WAY too much. If you are even in the ballpark, life will find a way.

double QFT I've brought women over to a clean house only to have them willing to get dirty on a hell of a lot more places then just the bed.
