Making instant coffee
    #19078806 - 11/03/13 04:30 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

So i drink instant coffee once or twice a day. When making it, i always poor the water in first and then the milk. My ex used to always say, 'no no no no, you shouldn't do that because it burns to coffee. You should put the milk in first to avoid that.' I didn't think it really mattered and continued to put the water in first.
lately i've been complaining about how the coffee taste, so i decided to see if the milk in first method actually makes a difference; i was pleasantly surprised and am now enjoying instant coffee that taste good.
:raisemyglass:
You think the order of the milk and water matters?

Do you live in Mexico or something? They drink that stuff like crazy down there. In fact it can be hard to find an actual cup of brewed coffee down there, even though they grow and roast coffee beans in some regions.

I'm not a huge coffee snob, I'll drink anything without complaint if it'll give me a much needed energy boost - but I've never drank instant coffee . Seems pretty unappealing. I will drink my coffee black a lot of the time, though, and insta-coffee seems like it needs sugar and milk to not taste like total shitwater.

I personally have a keurig that definitely spoils me, faster than instant coffee and brews whatever you want, so coffee is pretty much instant for me. But hey, to each his own.

The reason the coffee tastes bad is you're using instant

I grind my own from whole beans right before I brew it.

Instant coffee is crap!  If I'm in a place that has instant or tea, I'd take tea every time.

Maybe in the US we should make instant tea that tastes terrible to alienate foreigners and force them to drink brewed coffee.

Nescafe? Too rich for me. I use the cheap brand >

Netto's cheap non-brand used to be ~ £1.00 for 200g. Now that Netto's have left the UK I have to pay nearly double the price for stuff that tastes, and probably is, exactly the same, from the more expensive stores, asda/tesco's  :nonono:

When I run out of sugar I use this >

I put the coffee in first with the milk, if you like it 'white', or, the same amount of cold water, as you would milk, if you like it black.
Allow the kettle to cool down a little before adding the water. Enjoy.

The smell of fresh brewed coffee reminds me of school staff rooms too much, that, and the stench that wafts/oozes out of the local coffee shop.:puke:

QFT.

I grind my beans in a burr grinder immediately before brewing.  I also buy my beans freshly roasted from a local roastery.  I can't drink Tim Horton's coffee anymore either, that stuff is piss.

I usually just keep Folger's around the house because I'm poor and cheap, and I can't really tell the difference at 6AM before work anyhow.  But NesCafe?  uuuuugggggh!

I don't know how people drink it.

Hey thanks for the tip man!

I actually like instant coffee.

Its true that many things are damaged or degraded by boiling water. So when you make coffee or tea you should actually use water just before it boils, not after it boils, in order to preserve the antioxidants etc. Putting the milk in first might help you do that.

Imagine drinking instant coffees then going back to jail only to have more. You will be angry wondering why you didn't enjoy the real deal while able.

On the flip side, if i did go to gaol, wouldn't it be cool because i'd be used to instant coffee, there's no regression.

Straight up, the only place insta coffee has in society is in jail and it should stay there. Anybody who needs that instant fix, and isn't willing to go through the ritual we mostly ALL love of brewing a fresh pot should make some tea or floral hippy drink and move on.

I recently bought a thing of Instant Coffee at the dollar store, as instant coffee's i notice have gotten better. I used it up quick kinda wish i had some now.

Started with the Nescafe brand, not that one, but another one, that my pops brought home. Turns out they sell it here.

I had a thing of it when I first moved in as I had no microwave and the coffee maker and whatever wasn't here, just had the one cup coffee maker, no filters (now I use a french press) I didn't even have the electric teakettle from goodwill I have now so I used an automatic hard boiled egg cooker shaped like a chicken, think it's called the henrietta cooker or something but it just boiled the water and i dumped it in a small cup.

this instant had the chicory, which some people like. I think it's okay, but it's decent tasting, as long as its not nasty tasting it doesn't have to be awesome.

I think you made a good argument there.

What do you guys think about the keurig k cups? I'm talking about those coffee makers where you put in one of those little cups, then it makes one cup of coffee within like a thirty second time frame compared to the real thing. I still am living with my rents and they bought one of those and I am not sure what to think about it.

Coffee is like the only addiction that just make sense. I get more satisfaction from it then around the fourth or fifth day awake on meth.

Sure, a rig full of some thick syrup is nice. But damn, I think I look more forward to that fresh smell of roasted beans. Whether I am at home or at the coffee shop, whenever I walk into the room the brew is being prepared there is always a few things in common. You feel a moment of relief, warmth, love, and a comfortable opiate like feeling that warms you up from the cold outside. Everything looks and feels brighter and more clear, your body begins to warm up and you hold the cup of coffee in your hands to be completely relieved of the outside elements or simply the drag of getting out of your bed and into the kitchen. Then lastly, the actual effects of coffee are only a small part of the ritual. You go from brain fog to a clear, manageable, every day mindset that not only increases productivity, but makes you more happy, social and is easy to integrate into your daily routine. It's almost a staple.

When you make instant coffee, you basically are basically taking a metaphorical dump on this entire process. I hope your kids make instant coffee when they grow up, so they can be just like you.

Unbelievable. Shame on you.
