This was fucking crazy, but I doubt it's authenticity, wish they would have listed sources for more info. If I'm wrong then holy shit. Also seems like the effects are far more attributable to the stimulants used than the lack of sleep.
its a work of fiction

Yeah you can stay up until sunrise all you want as long as you sleep the next day. But go a full 24 hours without sleep and your body and brain will be badly depleted and unbalanced . You brain needs sleep to process and retain information . It is also during sleep that your body releases essential hormones and antioxidants that basically hold the body together , allow muscles to grow and repair etc. the average person actually shrinks three inches during the course of the day and regains that height while sleeping .
Without sleep you won't produce melatonin, which greatly increases he damage free radicals do to your DNA and increases the rate of aging and risk of cancer . Even one nights missed sleep dramatically increases the risk of psychosis .
Staying up all night is often well worth it, but only if you sleep the next morning or afternoon .
I could go on and on about all the horrible things sleep deprivation does to you.
And yeah , once you start missing two or three days of sleep it's genuinely horrifying what happens to you .

I would love to see a source for this. I'd believe ~0.5" but there's no chance in hell it is 3".

Your brain clears itself of toxins while you sleep as well. Metabolic work while you're awake builds toxins in the brain.

Going to work after a all nighter on speed rolls. Never again. That is worse than agitated by a long shot. I will never do that drug ever again.

Yes, I have done intense physical labor constantly for 8 hours straight (taking tiny "breaks" for water and protein) the day after I had no sleep from high dose amphetamines. It was brutal man, BRUTAL.
That is the weakest I've ever felt. God it was ecstasy just sitting down afterward.
Well today I pulled another sleepless night. It's probably my 50th.
I'm going to die young.

I drank like three beers and played flip cup with one, winning both times then I took a glug of some liqour and I woke up 5 hours later wrecked with a horribly upset stomach. I managed to get back in bed and slept 6 hours. Sensitive to light but feel fine now.

I hate pulling all nighters. Some people seem proud of their ability to function on no sleep.
I'm glad I can't. My body gives me the signs I need to stay healthy, and needing my sleep is one of them.

I'm not proud of it, but I do it.
I have insomnia, though.
