Eat organic. Conventionally grown apples are absolutely loaded with pesticides.

Organic apples are probably loaded with worms.

It's true for a lot of fruits. Grapes too, the antioxidant properties are mostly in the skin.

You don't know what you're talking about. Unique antioxidants does not translate to "the healthiest part of the fruit." In fact, I recently read that some of these unqiue antioxidants actually aren't as good as has been previously touted. But I have no details on that on hand.

One of the benefits fruits possess over other foods is their enzymes and their soluble fiber, both of which are inside the fruit.

edit

I just remembered I read that they did a study on wine. Wine is a great example for this topic because the grape skins are broken down in an ideal way via the powerful fermentation. The study concluded that the antioxidant activity was nowhere near as spectacular as has been claimed in the past.

Nah, its definitely you.

Skin of the fruit contains:

Minerals
Vitamins
Phyto nutrients
Enzymes
Antioxidants

The mineral content of a fruit is mostly contained within its peel as well.

If you think antioxidants are bad, you need to take a course on human anatomy/biochemistry. Our body is constantly oxidizing and needs all the help it can get.

I believe that the interior of fruits is much more valuable than their skins. And I'm sure if one were to undertake a study of this topic, they would determine that to be the case.

Why are you saying I said antioxidants are "bad." I never said that. All I said is that obscure antioxidants such as those found in certain fruit skins that have been raved about have been determined to be not as good as previously thought and that simple vitamin C is generally a far more desirable antioxidant.

Let's wait until we have a study to look at before we are sure of anything, shall we?

By the way, Uzziel, all that stuff you listed is found in the interiors of fruits as well. You didn't really present me with an argument. Of that list, the only thing the skin is more well known for is the antioxidants, which are questionable. Remember, many healthy people grow up with a gross deficiency of fruit skins. Another thing is that the bioavailability is highly questionable as they're very tough and the body does not possess the enzymes to digest them. In fact, I think it's well established that fruit skins don't digest. One of the most famous examples is lycopene, found in tomatoes. Ketchup is actually a better source of lycopene than tomatoes because ketchup is machinated. It's well established that lycopene only becomes available to humans when tomatoes are machinated in some way (i.e. kerchup or a smoothie) or cooked.

You're the guy saying don't eat the skin. I'm saying its good for you and I listed why. I don't need an argument.

Also, the enzymes in your stomach do just fine in breaking it down. There is a reason why you don't shit out fruit skin. There is nothing "Well-established" in this thread. When you make a claim like you did "I think it's well established that fruit skins don't digest....." you generally back it up with evidence. No, I don't see how that is well established at all, hence why everyone is disagreeing.

You do shit them out. How would you know? When was the last time you took a shit and sifted through it?

And although I didn't provide hard data, I provided a basis via my lycopene example.

We don't digest the outer layer of corn and it's clearly visible in your shit, so yeah I would think apple skin would show it's face too.

Yes, corn has made itself into pop culture in this respect, but that doesn't mean that this doesn't happen with other things as well. Obviously.

but...it doesn't happen with apple skins.  It's well known because it's easy to see what is in your crap.  Apple skins are brightly colored.

You're assuming it doesn't happen with apple skins. In actuality, not that many people ever look at their crap. Much less talk about it. You can't assume that such things would become common knowledge. The corn thing became common knowledge long ago because it just did. Don't be so naive as to think that it doesn't happen with many other things.

I'm not relying on other people's crap reports.  I myself have eaten corn and seen it come back out.  I myself eat lots of apple skins and have never ever seen any of it remain.

Well what do you know, I found some evidence that apple skins do pass through, undigested, just like corn exteriors.

Undigested food is another visible substance. Patients are quite amazed when one asks about the success of chewing food. I have identified unchewed sliced mushrooms, corn, peanuts, skins from apples, grapes and red potatoes, pieces of nuts such as cashews, seeds of all types such as sunflower and parts of pumpkin seeds. They are amazed at how quickly food is identified in the stool.

Yes, an apple skin can pass through looking almost intact

Your links make it sound like the problem is not chewing enough, rather than the stomach not breaking it down.
