species, strains, etc.

Hey all, I've been reading a bunch and just trying to validate what I think I've learned in relation to mycology and the common use of abbreviations, nicknames, etc. to talk about a range of species and strains. Here is what I understand to be true:
- There are several species (capable of interbreeding and creating viable offspring within the same species) of psilocybin and psilocin containing mushrooms. (ex. Psilocybe cubensis, Psilocybe semilanceata, Panaeolus cyanescens, Psilocybe azurescens, etc.)
- Within a species are several 'strains' which are genetically similar enough to reproduce with any other strain within the same species, but may exhibit a particular phenotype that developed in response to geography (evolution) or may exhibit traits that have been artificially selected for and isolated in lab settings (ex. using agar and tissue samples to isolate a mutant, then obtaining spores and continuing process until trait is dominant)
- While these phenotype variations (cap shape, cap colour, colonization speed, fruiting body size, etc.) can vary widely, there is not a huge difference in Psilocybin or Psilocin content within P. cubensis
- Despite the classification of different phenotypic expressions into strains (ex. PR cubes vs PE, B+, GT, etc.), a MS will always contain a huge range of phenotypic variation within the huge range of genetics in any spore print, even when taken from a 'specific' strain
Are these assumptions correct?
This would mean that it's much more important to isolate a specific tissue culture with given traits than to take a spore print from the same fruit in terms of reliably growing fruits with the same traits. I guess it would explain why so many people on this site say that agar is the next step after MS, in terms of getting reliable genetics in your grow.
So, given the above, are the strains you can buy online so named because they were taken and grown from a master culture somewhere with the same name that may have a geographic origin (ex. Puerto Rican or Burmese cubes) or a lab isolation origin (ex. B+, A+, PE) that in general display a specific set of phenotypes? Or is it likely that B+ from one place has little other than a name connecting it to B+ from another source?
THANKS. Always learning.

Most cube strains are no different than others, there is a few exceptions for example penis envy looking like dicks and being very potent.. and some straims definitely colonize faster but i havent noticed a huge difference in most strains i have grown

Sorry, all my search came up with was random posts by people looking to make their own strains.
I have found some history of specific strains, was looking more for confirmation of what I said.
I'm not trying to discuss specific strains or strains in general - just confirming the diff between species and strain and the ramifications.
THANKS
