Laughing gyms?

Habitat: On a base of a log (can't really say from which tree species)
Gills: Rusty brown, sub-decurrent and crowded
Stem: the biggest was about 25/20 cm in length and maybe more than 5 cm in diameter, orangish/brown, fibrous, solid, thick and slightly swollen at the base.
Cap: Maybe 25 cm in diameter, orangish/brown, flat to depressed
Spore print color: I didn't take any, although there were evident deposits of rusty brown spores.
Bruising: Possible black bruising
Other information: I found some biggest on a log (the biggest weight about 1/1,5Kg) the smallest of them had a ring mark although the biggest didn't. I posting pictures of more growing on a log just besides this that could be younger specimens although these had a marked ring and some scaling on the cap:
#1 log

#2 log

Wow those are huge, awesome find!
These seem pretty close to Gymnopilus junonius/spectabilis.

It was actually kind of funny because we found a bunch of logs with lots of them on their base, like about 3 or 4 logs with some 15 mushrooms each with some 8/10cm in cap diameter, then somebody was calling me like, forget about those, you gotta see these, and I was like I had never seen such big mushrooms, I left them all there though. The bigger ones had some maggot holes, I wasn't counting on finding mushrooms so I didn't brought anything along to carry them and my dog had just ran into a wasp nest and was filled with stings, she is now Ok though. Plus G. junonis psychoactivity may depend from place to place right?

When you grab that big cluster check for bruising on or near the bottom and look for any aborts that could be bluing. Go get em and post back with new pics please.

I def got no blue bruising on the ones I found yesterday, I thought that I ought to if they should have any psilocybin, I cut them at the base, the pic that I took was about 10/15 min after cutting it and saw absolutely no bruising. The first patches I found (of "smaller") kind of made me think Armillaria because of the ring shape and cap color with darker scales, but when I looked underneath I thought Gyms for sure, and wouldn't of thought G. junonis if it weren't for their size. I have more pics but I don't seem to able to host on account of the size (more than 5 mb) I'll try to reduce them. Unfortunately I'll only be back there in a week as that place is a bit far from were I live.

I didn't bring any with me, those 2 I cut were filled with maggot wholes so I left them there. However I will go back there in the next weekend and I'm pretty sure I'll still be able to find some specimens, if I do, I'll definitely save a couple for you. But shouldn't they stain blue?

these are amazing specimens because... not only do they fucking kick ass... but, they are definitely "spectabilis" in Europe...
but, we can test out the whole "blue" thing for real...

Ok, I'm pretty positive I'll find some next week because there were about more 4 logs just like the one in the pics with lots of them, and the gyms I normally find usually last a bit while they're drying so if it doesn't rain a lot (which is probable) I should have some specimens for you

and I wouldnt let those maggot holes bother you. Every mushroom is subject to insects liking eating them. These are the coolest thing Ive seen yet here because I love Gymnopilus junonius and spectabilis! Awesome finds!! I know they are far away u said but I would go back today and get them. Send a couple samples out for science and do some spore prints to trade online. Its not illegal to posess spores, just the mycelium that is the REAL mushroom or the fruits are illegal to possess I'm told.

Unfortenately there's absolutely no chance I could be going there today
I'll just have to wait until next week, but considering the experience I have with the gyms I usually find in my area, I'm pretty positive I'll be lucky.
I'm a girl, and I have major issues with maggots, sorry I love mushrooms, and I could find the most potent species I still wouldn't keep it if it had maggots.
I once started used something like a toolbox for picking mushrooms, and found a bunch of Marasmius oreades (which at the time I didn't know what was and I didn't noticed the signs), when I got home and opened the box it was completely infested with larvae , and I really don't like those bastards, sorry but my disgust prevails, I only bring clean specimens with me.
There were a lot of good gyms specimens there I just had to bring the huge one which happened do be older and with maggot holes.
Don't worry, if I find them next week I'll bring them and take as many spore prints as specimens I bring with me.

Sounds good! Not the maggots thing but the other stuff lol! Its understandable. I found bugs in alot of my wild edibles. I just brush em off and clean the mushroom then bon appetite! I understand your being bothered by them. I wont try and change that cant wait to see new pics and spore prints would be an awesome thing to keep for the future. Who knows someday u might want to start a patch closer to home
