I just read on one of these threads that there might be a tendency for gyms to grow on treated wood and then I saw these on my fence.
Habitat: Growing out of a rotting wooden fence.
Gills: (orangey) brown, look adnate
Stem: ~8mm wide, ~35mm long, orangey brown with white patches, fibrillose (?) with
Cap: ~35mm in diameter, light orangey brown, darker fine scales concentrated at center, convex. One cap was more of a burgundy color (see last, blurry, photo).
Spore print color: printing
Bruising: No bruising observed.

I would say gymnopilus Pretty cool that they were growing directly off the fence like that. Do they smell fairly strong? I think I see veil remnants, do they have any?

No, I just looked again and I don't see any veil remnants/ annulus. One would expect some indication of an annulus in a Gymnopilus, right?
They smell pretty mushroomy. Not an unusual smell. I don't think my nose is the greatest for distinguishing mushroom scents.

Not all Gymns have veil remnants/annulus. That being said, I'm not sure the the OPs mushrooms are.

I was planning on drying them, but I left them too long spore-printing with a bowl over top and a mold started growing on them so now they're in the compost bucket. woops.
Anyways, here's the spore print. Looks rusty brown to me (sorry about the artificial light...). Would you say the color rules out Pholiota and Galerina and the wood substrate rules out Cortinarius?

Naw, definitely mold (or something like it) on them: lots of those long white, whispy mold hair things -- yuck. I didn't notice any green bruising. There may be more growing where I found them since it's been raining really hard here. I'll check it out later ...

Well, it wasn't that quickly, was it? I started spore-printing right after my original post which was two days ago and since that time they've been sitting on a plate on some foil, covered by a bowl with some water droplets on the cap. Seems like a good mold-promoting environment to me!
Anyways, yeah, I'll see if more are popping up...
