Just pulled my first ever all-nighter at 23 years old.

No clue why I've never done this before, but it took me so long to go to sleep that I estimated I'd only get around 4 hours. In half an hour I'm going to work a 7 hour shift as a busy barrista so we will see how this goes. I really don't notice a difference in mindset right now..
Still taking my standard dose of kratom, having my cup of coffee, eating breakfast, but I was able to stay up all night listening to Mars Volta, reading William S. Burroughs, and playing Counter-Strike.. Why don't I do this more often?

Ignore poor boy. We're not all as cool as him. You'll find out why you don't do this when you get delirious halfway through the day. I can stay up for 3 days without drugs. Shit's a headtrip.

Jesus man what the fuck? You're 23 years old and you've never stayed up long enough to see the sun rise? Have you never been to a mad party or a rave before? I remember staying up all night when I was 8 years old just so I could see santa. I've probably pulled at least 30 or so all nighters this year alone. When i was 21 it was once or twice a week.
I feel sorry that nothing has kept you wanting to stay up all night until now. And video games of all things! Although i'm guilty of that on many occassions. But that was mainly my child/teenage years. Now it's usually people/parties.

Listen dude, you will be fine but do NOT go without sleep again if you can possibly avoid it.
Missing even one full night of sleep is actually severely damaging to your body and mind.
NEVER miss sleep if you can avoid it. I am totally serious. If you study the consequences its no joke. Sleep is not optional, and its never a good idea to miss it.

I'm sorry but saying that missing a single nights sleep would "severely damage ones mind and body" is simply not true. At least pull out a study if you're gonna make statements like that.
I can speak from experience and say that doing it every now and then poses no health risks whatsoever. All things in moderation. I'm certainly not glorifying sleep deprivation, but I will say that some of the best times of my life have been between the hours of 4 and 6am.

Completely anecdotal, but I have found that if I miss a full night of sleep, I not only lose muscle, but it seems to reset any short-term habits I've gotten into such as working out, going for morning runs, taking supplements/nootropics, etc.
I feel like I have to reinvest 3-4 weeks after an all-nighter into solidifying habits that were already set in stone prior to that night, and it also buttfucks my circadian rhythm for at least 3-4 days.
IMO all-nighters are only worth it if you have really good drugs and a really sexy woman to play with.

its really only rough after you pass out and sleep thro severe hunger, when you do wake up your so hungry you can't walk and you don't have groceries or a car because you spend your money on meth instead and have to crawl to the grocery store, taking a rest every half block to puke green slime, to buy a Naked because you don't have energy to chew and swallow solid food.
but i wouldn't kno anything about that, drugs er bad.

I don't really consider just staying up really late pulling an all-nighter. You can party til six and go to sleep at seven, that ain't no all-nighter.

First of all, it's 26 hrs since I slept last and I feel fine. About to go hang out with some friends.
Secondly, why the fuck does everyone think I stayed up all night just to play video games? It was one of the various things I was doing including reading, listening to forgotten music, and fucking playing my own music and writing on guitar... Douchebags think you are so cool because you've stayed up all night doing MXE, please help your ego.
Thirdly, I have stayed up PLENTY of times to see sunrise, that's not what this was about. This is about not sleeping, at all, and continuing on in the morning like nothing happened.
Edit: also Poor Boy, you might need a good friend so you can feel good about yourself instead of flooding someone's thread with pointless shit.

i don't think the point is that its not cool. it just is pointless, at least if your on stimulants the point is that you physically can not sleep.
losing sleep for a night can really put a toll on you depending on the activities you have next day, but if you just have to work a mindless job then the toll isn't felt much. or just sit through a lecture, it can become impossible just to stay awake.
fortunately i'm not a regular coffee drinker, so when i do drink coffee its very effective and helps a lot. i assume coffee won't work as well for you because you probably drink a lot anyway at work usually.

This was fucking crazy, but I doubt it's authenticity, wish they would have listed sources for more info. If I'm wrong then holy shit. Also seems like the effects are far more attributable to the stimulants used than the lack of sleep.

Yeah you can stay up until sunrise all you want as long as you sleep the next day. But go a full 24 hours without sleep and your body and brain will be badly depleted and unbalanced . You brain needs sleep to process and retain information . It is also during sleep that your body releases essential hormones and antioxidants that basically hold the body together , allow muscles to grow and repair etc. the average person actually shrinks three inches during the course of the day and regains that height while sleeping .
Without sleep you won't produce melatonin, which greatly increases he damage free radicals do to your DNA and increases the rate of aging and risk of cancer . Even one nights missed sleep dramatically increases the risk of psychosis .
Staying up all night is often well worth it, but only if you sleep the next morning or afternoon .
I could go on and on about all the horrible things sleep deprivation does to you.
And yeah , once you start missing two or three days of sleep it's genuinely horrifying what happens to you .

I would love to see a source for this. I'd believe ~0.5" but there's no chance in hell it is 3".

Your brain clears itself of toxins while you sleep as well. Metabolic work while you're awake builds toxins in the brain.

Going to work after a all nighter on speed rolls. Never again. That is worse than agitated by a long shot. I will never do that drug ever again.

Yes, I have done intense physical labor constantly for 8 hours straight (taking tiny "breaks" for water and protein) the day after I had no sleep from high dose amphetamines. It was brutal man, BRUTAL.
That is the weakest I've ever felt. God it was ecstasy just sitting down afterward.
Well today I pulled another sleepless night. It's probably my 50th.
I'm going to die young.

I drank like three beers and played flip cup with one, winning both times then I took a glug of some liqour and I woke up 5 hours later wrecked with a horribly upset stomach. I managed to get back in bed and slept 6 hours. Sensitive to light but feel fine now.

I hate pulling all nighters. Some people seem proud of their ability to function on no sleep.
I'm glad I can't. My body gives me the signs I need to stay healthy, and needing my sleep is one of them.

I'm not proud of it, but I do it.
I have insomnia, though.
