I just had the craziest dream, woke me right the fuck up.
For some reason I was in a SUV with some people, have no idea who they were. They were driving around pretty crazily and they went to take a sharp turn really fast on some free way loop, and the vehicle flipped and rolled and it was like slow motion of the accident, it was freakier than all hell.
What the fuck

The key to changing your sleeping pattern is to stay up past your normal time of sleeping, and don't fall asleep until like 9 or 10pm.. it takes will power but people can stay up for days..

yeah I can't do that, I've tried multiple times and never make it past 3pm.

Crunch is right. I fell into this habit for a while, but that's all it is, a habit.
If you want to fix it, it's going to be a shitty week of sleep at least. Skip a nights(days) sleep and then try to sleep at night. It'll work eventually. Some OTC advil pm may help you short term.

It happens for three reasons.
One, you are too sedentary in your activity. You either don't have a job or don't move your body around much at all. The reason you aren't tired by the time night falls down is because you don't wake yourself up in the morning and exert yourself physically through the day. If you exercise, your body will be FORCED to shut down to repair itself.
Two, you are too active on the computer or phone or TV at night. Do not ever use the computer, phone, or watch TV while lying down. Keep these distractions separate from your bedroom and especially do not use these things in your bed. I think every time I've ever stayed up all night were also the same nights that I did not exercise that day. Tonight is one of these nights.
Three, you like to sleep in, and sleeping in throws off your whole sleep schedule as it becomes harder and harder to sleep at the same time the next night, and you become sleeping later and later each night because of it.
Force yourself to wake up at a set time each morning, no matter what time you fall asleep in the night or morning. If you exceed the time you are set to wake up, do not fall asleep until night comes. Within a few days, you will fall asleep at the right time at night. Work out every day for at least an hour to ensure you will be tired by nightfall, and do not ever take a nap mid-day. Do not oversleep or sleep more than 9 hours when you fall asleep at night. Within a couple weeks, you will find that your sleep schedule will have readjusted itself.

I am too. Why do you think I'm still up at 4:30 in the morning? Coincidentally today was a day that I didn't work out either, so I'm not nearly as tired as I normally would be. But tomorrow's Saturday and it's the end of the work week, so what do I care if I sleep late tonight? However, I have still set my alarm at 10:30 so that I do not oversleep and will have my sleep cycle back to normal by Monday morning.
I'm one of those strange people that needs noise to fall asleep though. Silence gets me to start thinking and racing with thoughts, while noise seems to calm my brain down. So I usually turn on Netflix or a radio and turn down the volume really low, and somehow hearing people's voices at a barely audible level helps me to fall asleep and stay asleep. That's the only reason I keep the computer near my bed. Actually the reason I started posting on the Shroomery at this time, is because my Netflix player suddenly stopped, and it's silent in my room now.
But, usually this method doesn't work for most people, because most people prefer to sleep when it's quiet.

I generally work from 7pm to 7am so its pretty easy. I use to party all the time every night and sleep all day. Its been a cycle. I'm a vampire. I like sleeping from the house of about 6am to noon. Those are most ideal for me. I never did need a 8 hour chunk.

It's just getting kind of old falling asleep at 6am then waking up anywhere from 12-3pm and still being super tired and unable to stay up all night/the next day until a proper bed time.
I've also quit caffeine recently which makes it a million times harder.
and @Crystal G, I've always wished I could fall asleep to music or something as my mind also tends to race from one thought to the next making it harder to fall asleep, but the only real sound that makes me sleep easy is rain storms

I'm exactly the same. I'm not sure if it's just another habit, or to reccomend it to fellow night thinktanks.
I've found that there's two different mind sets people can have when going to bed: 1) Finally it's time to sleep, I get to shut off my thouhts and rest. 2) Oh it's time to sleep? Let's critically evaluate every aspect of my life.
