9 brf jars. golden teacher/south american
    #18950458 - 10/08/13 04:53 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Have been out of the game for about 4 years now. I decide to get back into it heavily after a dream I had. I have had many successful grows. None of which I ever felt the desire to document. However I like to become a well respected grower of the community, help a lot of new growers, and share some original ideas unheard of (as far as I know) like my 360° Fruiting substrate.

This first grow is going to be a small grow involving 1 2brf plus additives jars. I normally wouldn't waste my time with a small yielding grow like this, but I had some raw materials at my disposal abs just decided to throw this together for a little personal stash as wait for some packages to arrive and plan much larger projects.

9-25-2013

Inoculated 12 brf Jars. 6 golden teacher and 6 South american.

10-1-2013

Lost 1 g.t. to cobweb. The remaining 5 are doing very well. Ripping through about half the substrate. 6 s.a. are colonizing much slower as expected and are maybe 20%.

I will be giving them an observation later this evening and will post the best pics I can on my not so sophisticated camera phone. Not much to really post on either as they are still just in the colonizing stage, butttt eye candy is always fun:)

10-8-2013

G.t. are almost done

S.a. trailing but coming along

Lost another g.t. to cobweb. Which is peculiar I never really had a problem with that. Especially inside the jar.

Most of them are done

The south Americans colonized faster then the golden teachers for the most part. Only by like 2 days though. Don't say much.

The two that are not quite finished

I will dunk the most of them on Wednesday or Thursday for the better part of 24 hours. Roll them in verm and placed in a fruiting chamber.

Also to note I am down to 9 jars. Lost a s.a. to cobweb I believe. Maybe not. I have isolated it for further investigation.

You should let those consolidate for a week after full colonization. Next time you should try widemouth 1/2 pints. Good Luck tho

Yea should have. Got 12 jars of rye ready to be prepared. I will be waiting the week. Ish. A few were done Wednesday a few more Thursday and so on. Maybe compare one left to consolidate for a week next to one say maybe 2 or 3 days.

Take the foil off bro.

It comes off after sterilization and stays off.

And you need to give them at least a week after 100% before birthing, for consolidation.

Cakes were colonized, consolidated, dunk, rolled, and placed in a fruiting chamber.

One cake I suspected to have cobweb is looking very healthy. I'm going to do a separate little set up for that one. Maybe a 3 liter bottle.

They have been fruiting about 2 days. Fruits to come!

Build a proper SGFC with 1/4" holes every 2" on all 6 sides, then fill it with 4-5" of wet, well strained perlite.

http://www.mushroomvideos.com/Terrarium-Tek

There is no way that chamber is going to hold humidity....

It will hold humidity fine. This was an old  Monotub. Its 99% humidity. Fan blowing around the room. Misting and fanning every 6 hours or so. (Mist only as needed.

Perlite in the bottom of a tub with no holes is pointless.

Air cannot flow up thru it.

But hey....you can only lead a horse to water.

That setup, as pictured, is not holding humidity, especially if there is a fan in the room....no matter what a cheap hygrometer says.

The fruits will speak for themselves tho...I do wish you luck.

If you have enough perlite then keeping humidity up in a terrarium shouldn't be that difficult. Its the air flow you want to get down. As long as air is flowing through the tub allowing the water to evaporate I don't see a problem.

The problem is, only the very top layer of the perlite gets air, so only the very top layer can evaporate....whats the point?

In a SGFC where you have holes on all sides as described above, air can flow THROUGH ALL of the perlite, not just skim over the top layer of it.

Heat and humidity flow out thru the top holes, taking the co2 with it, which in turn pulls air up thru the bottom holes.

Totally self sustaining, minus a couple mistings/fannings a day, with no fans running in the room.

Also, without holes in the very bottom, water can collect.

And you never want standgin water in your fruiting chamber...

Just sayin, that is the most ghetto setup I have seen in a while, no offense, just trying to help.
