Did Ayahuasca change your personality?

I've smoked DMT but still feel like pretty much the same person. Then I read this response on Reddit about doing Aya alone. What is your experience in terms of permanent changes and the need for guidance?
"I'm pretty sure I'd much prefer a beautiful, natural setting with grounded people that just want to see where the drug takes you on its own.

You wouldn't, actually. I'm familiar with this drug and you don't want to go where it will take you without guidance.
Look, I get where you're probably coming from with with this. You don't want the pseudo-religious spiritual stuff. That's cool, I'm an atheist too. Ayahuasca is not for us.
There's no "grounded" on ayahuasca. You'll trip your face off. You will experience the end of everything that exists. You'll cry. You will meet god. Doesn't matter that you don't believe in one. You will while you're tripping. He won't be fucking happy either. And this drug is dark. I know that everyone thinks they can handle it. I did. Maybe you've done mushrooms or LSD and think you know what a trip is. I thought so.
You do what you want to do, but my advice after having gone down a similar path is that you shouldn't fuck with ayahuasca without the mystic, chanting, praying.
Some friends and I went into the mountains and took ayahuasca on our own, just wanting to experience it together in a beautiful place. It permanently fucked with all of us. Some more than others, and not all necessarily in negative ways.
But we are all different people than we were before. I cannot emphasize this enough. This drug will permanently change your personality and what it feels like to be you. You want that process supervised and controlled by people who know what they are doing.
Ayahuasca is not like other drugs. It should not, maybe cannot, be separated from the rituals that are associated with it. You will have a spiritual experience no matter what you want. You will pray. Might as well have someone telling you what to pray for."

I somewhat agree with his post. I don't think ayahuasca has any value outside of ceremony. I suppose some people have found a way to enjoy brewing it in their own home, but i have not once thought that would be a good idea since trying it. It IS nothing like mushrooms or LSD or even DMT. It's absolutely insane and without the right mindset there is not much to gain. Not only is there not much to gain, but i could see it potentially doing a lot of psychological harm to someone ill-equipped.
But where i disagree is on some of the spiritual stuff. When i first entered ceremony i had his attitude. "whats with all this crazy spirituality talk." But when you look past the words they use and get at the ideas that they convey, it's not like that. It's not about gods and heaven and hell, it's about becoming a stronger human being. Learning to control your fears. Becoming one with the nature of your being and finding your happiness there
As far as permanently changing my personality, most definitely. Maybe not on the surface, but internally for sure. It'll probably be many more ceremonies before those changes work towards the top. It takes some repetition of setting intentions to finally bring about change ime

I feel like the only way to do it is to find a legitimate shaman in the Amazon jungle, it is a powerful hallucinogen. I would put that up against the biggest acidhead and if you gave them a full cup of good shit I bet they would even say it was the deepest experience. Ayahuasca is a drug you want to do in a place where people respect, not a place where if you freak out and run onto the street a cop will chase you down. Ehhh, no way fuck that haha.
