Psilocybe Allenii
    #19070550 - 11/01/13 03:52 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Found these recently, I believe they are Allenii. Spore print was purple brown. Stems and Caps bruised blue soon after being handled. Just wanted a second opinion as I've never found Allenii before. Found in the greater Seattle Area.

Yes, Psilocybe allenii, don't use a capital for the species epithet...

In the pictures I've seen online I notice a lot of variation of cap shapes and sizes, some seem to be much more conical than others. Is this based off of substrate, location, both, or something else?

There's so far no knowing. I would expect for a feature like that that genetics plays a substantial role, but there's nothing to base that on that I know of.

They almost look more like azures to me.. The immature ones have a very pointed cap like you said. I dont see that shape with allenii they are usually dome shaped to flat not pointed or raised bump in the middle like some of these.

But i dont know what they are for sure. probably azures or allenii.

This is the second set of not-unlikely P. allenii I've seen in the last week with this form.

They are more umbonate and striate than P. allenii.    P. azurescens is pretty likely.

P. allenii does not have an umbonate cap and those all seem to be umbonate.

Is that about what you would make of these as well?

I occasionally have patches of allenii with fairly umbonate caps.

Here are some from last year

Sometimes they are very striate as well. particularly when moist
the picture in my signature is a good example.

They all look the same.  Probable P. allenii.

One thing about azurescens is that it has a very long stem.

Most of them were very stout. I went back to check on the patch and took a few more photos. Here they are.

I also found another patch in a nearby area, I'm still not completely convinced they are allenii but I don't know what else they could be.

Another picture next to a lighter to show size.

Your new patch is P. allenii also.
