Thick, white, colonized the filter layer (PF)

I haven't seen anything like this in the contam FAQs etc. I've already trashed it, but I'm still curious what it was. I thought I had a fully colonized PF cake, but when I opened it, I was surprised to find this. Note that in the pics, this is the filter layer we're looking at.
Description:
- Mostly white with faint tan patches
- Fully colonized the filter layer
- Thick, not delicate or cobweb-like
- Very "mushroomy" in appearance and scent
- Cake was "squishy", rather than firm/crumbly
Any ideas? The spores came from what I now know to be a very disreputable vendor. Pretty much every other contam you can think of has already been experienced from them, and ZERO lost jars using spores from a reputable one.

I had a similar thing happen I have no idea why though[1]. I don't believe it's a contam, since it grows too slow. Did you use brown rice flour?

That's definitely contaminated. They don't all grow quickly. The closest thing in my contam collection is this
Which is some kind of pin mold.
On agar it would look something like this

I took a few samples and put them on MEA plates. Below is a picture of one. They started out fuzzy but then settled down and produced more rhizomorphic growth. It's been a few weeks now and I still haven't seen any mold-like change in color.

I have no idea.
It came from the tiny leftover pieces of a ~15 yro baggie.

I'm assuming it an active species. You didn't notice any bruising develop after you chopped that chunk out?

Yeah, it was active. No bruising but there was a pool of metabolites.
